…
The scene twisted once more.
Late at night, the countryside was silent and still.
After comforting herself, little Serena carefully carried a glass of milk toward Patrick and Marianne’s room.
She remembered… her mother liked this.
She thought that maybe if her mother drank the milk, her mood would improve. She wouldn’t be so angry, she would smile at her, and she wouldn’t hate her so much.
But as she reached the door, she heard her parents arguing through the slightly ajar opening.
“…So annoying! If she hadn’t used Mom to threaten us and force us back today, I could have met with Mrs. Arden! She’s the connection who could introduce us to the Hawthorne family! If we could get in with them, do you know how much trouble that would save us?” Marianne cursed angrily.
“Alright, calm down. Mom was just worried because the child was hurt…” Patrick soothed.
“Hurt? I think she was faking it! So manipulative at such a young age! She deliberately had Mom call us so we’d have to drop everything and rush back!” The more Marianne spoke, the angrier she got. “And you, that deal you were about to close today was supposed to be signed! It was worth millions, and because of her phone call, it’s all gone down the drain!”
“She’s a jinx! Nothing good ever comes from being involved with her!”
Patrick’s voice was weary. “Come on, Mom still holds 35% of the company’s original shares. Dad insisted on giving them to her before he died.”
Marianne snorted. “If it weren’t for those shares, do you think I’d be putting up with this in a place like this?”
Patrick consoled her, “Those shares are the foundation of the Wynn Group. Mom loves Serena… so in the future, those shares will most likely go to Serena. You should be nicer to her. Just think of it as humoring Mom for the sake of the shares.”
“Give them to her? On what grounds?!” Marianne was even more furious now. “She’s a useless girl! What right does she have to get so many shares? Has Mom lost her mind?”
Marianne shot to her feet. “Patrick, you’re the only son of the Wynn family. Besides, didn’t we have four sons? Even if it’s a matter of inheritance, it shouldn’t go to a girl like Serena, right? What is that old hag thinking? Clinging to the shares and wanting to give them to Serena? I swear, just looking at Serena makes me furious…”
