Oliver was on edge, his nerves strung tight by the serious look on Josefina's face. "What's going on?" he asked, a crease forming between his brows.
Josefina pointed at his suit. "Take it off. Go wash up in the guest room before you come back in here."
Perplexed, Oliver handed his overcoat and suit jacket to the housekeeper, making sure to wash his hands thoroughly before coming back upstairs. "Alright, I'll go wash." He didn’t quite get it, but when Josefina spoke, it was as good as law to him. He obliged without a second thought.
...
In the guest room, Oliver called up Harry. "Find out who the woman in black was at the basement level two elevator around nine tonight."
"Yes, Mr. Oliver," Harry replied promptly.
Oliver hung up, still feeling uneasy. He hadn’t even brushed past that woman, so why was Josie so agitated?
Curiosity and confusion gnawing at him, Oliver took not one, but two showers and instructed the housekeeper to get rid of all the clothes he’d worn.
Only after all this did Oliver return to Josefina’s bedroom. As soon as he stepped in, Josefina was ready, wearing a mask and holding her purse. "We're going to your place."
Oliver blinked, taken aback. "Huh?"
He took her bag, insisting she shouldn't carry anything heavy. "Josie, what’s going on?"
"I'll explain in the car. We need to slip out quietly, without my parents knowing."
They took the elevator straight down to the underground garage. With about twenty cars parked there, Oliver picked his own and drove them away.
On the road, Oliver bit back his questions, keeping his focus on driving carefully through the night, alert for any potential danger that could require quick action.
Josefina finally broke the silence. "I think the scent on your clothes is something called 'baby fragrance,' a nasty concoction that can cause miscarriages and infertility in pregnant women. That’s why I had you shower and change. For the next couple of days, we’re staying at your place, not mine."
She wasn’t sure about the scent, but it was better to be safe than sorry. If it were true, those people were quick with their schemes.
Once Oliver parked, Josefina stepped out, and they both exited the car.
"Josie, I'll go over everyone I met today. Anyone could be suspicious and needs to be checked out," Oliver said, his voice firm with resolve. Anything involving Josefina was a top priority and needed careful handling.
