Miss Josefina: Nobody's Princess novel Chapter 1051

Sandi and Wilder strolled back into the house from the brisk autumn evening. As they headed towards the dining room, something felt off—Brandon's usual seat was empty.

Wilder, curious as ever, asked, "Dad, where's Grandpa? He's never missed a dinner before."

Cole, nursing a glass of Merlot, took a thoughtful sip and replied, "Your grandpa's over at Oliver's place. He plans to stay there for a couple of days."

Makiko, tilting her head with a hint of curiosity, added, "Why didn't he take us along? Maybe there's something important they need to discuss?"

Sandi put down her fork with a soft clatter and suggested, "Dad, maybe you should give Grandpa a call. We just got back, but you're still his son, after all."

"Alright, enough talking. Let's eat," Cole instructed, bringing the chatter to a halt.

Ever the attentive partner, Makiko gracefully served Cole some mashed potatoes, embodying the picture of a devoted spouse.

...

As night fell, a shadowy figure crept to the door of Brandon's bedroom. When the clock struck midnight, its chimes echoed through the still house. The intruder started fiddling with the keypad lock. After failing to crack the code, they tried picking the lock.

They worked at it for half an hour, sweat pouring down, but had no success. Just as they were about to attempt something drastic, the lock blared an alarm. "Who dares try to open your grandpa's door? Who dares try to open your grandpa's door?" The warning repeated, each time louder than before.

Panicked, the would-be burglar fled into the night.

Meanwhile, miles away at Oliver's, Brandon's phone buzzed with an alert. Oliver's phone lit up too.

Carefully slipping out of bed without disturbing Josefina, Oliver whispered, "Josie, I need to step out for a bit. You go on and sleep; no need to wait up."

He headed to Brandon, who was already on edge, eager to return home.

"Grandpa, don't rush," Oliver advised calmly. "Whoever it was didn't succeed and won't be back anytime soon."

Brandon's eyes blazed with determination. "I want to see for myself who this person is."
