Logan was Josefina's apprentice, and Hattie had grown fond of him because of it. But in a flash, Logan's face darkened with a fierce frown.
"I don't like him, and I'm not calling him," Logan declared, puffing up with indignation before stomping off.
"Ah, that kid," Hattie laughed softly. "I bet he’s worried Josie might get bullied."
Emily chimed in, "Nah, he’s just jealous. Now that Josie’s hitched, he’s having a tough time wrapping his head around the new situation. It’s throwing him for a loop."
Hattie looked a bit worried. "Someone broke into Mr. Brandon’s place in the dead of night. I hope nothing’s missing. I’ll see if Josie’s awake and check with her."
As she walked, Hattie dialed Dorian's number.
"Hey, boss, listen up. Last night, someone had the audacity to break into Grandpa Brandon's house. Can you believe it? I’m not sure if the Baldwin family lost anything yet. Hang tight on going to work—make sure the house is secure first."
"On it," Dorian replied, hanging up quickly. He then went about dragging his two brothers out of bed.
Garrett watched as Dorian hauled one brother in each hand and instinctively rubbed the back of his neck. If he’d been sleeping, would Dorian have yanked him up too? Knowing his eldest son, Garrett was pretty sure he would.
Reid and Calix slumped into chairs, looking dead tired.
Calix groaned, "Dorian, I only got home at four this morning and didn’t hit the hay till five. It’s seven now, and you’re dragging me up—this better be crucial!"
Reid added, "I might have caught some Zs before Carter, but Dorian, what’s the big deal?"
Both brothers, worn out and puzzled, turned to Dorian for answers.
Dorian filled them in on the break-in, and suddenly, sleep was the least of Reid and Calix's concerns.
