Josefina was perched at her desk in the classroom, sifting through the submissions her classmates had sent in via the school app. Everything was ticking along just fine until the door flung open and two people barged in.
Lydia and Joelle stormed in, visibly worked up about something. Lydia was trying to coax Joelle into leaving. "Come on, Joelle, let’s just drop it and go."
But Joelle wasn’t budging. "I’m not leaving until I get some answers!"
She marched right up to Josefina, leaning in close with a determined look. Instinctively, Josefina leaned back, grateful for the wheels on her chair that let her glide smoothly away from Joelle's intense stance.
“If you’ve got something to say, just spill it. But if you’re here to throw a tantrum, you’re barking up the wrong tree,” Josefina said, her voice calm and collected.
Joelle was relentless. “Josefina, both Lydia and I submitted our info on the app. Why didn’t we get the nod? I mean, put me aside for a sec—what about Lydia? She was third in the last exam!”
Josefina glanced over at Lydia, who managed a sheepish smile. “Joelle, let’s just let it go,” Lydia mumbled.
Even though Josefina didn’t know Lydia well, she saw right through the charade. It was clear Joelle was being the voice for Lydia’s complaints.
“Did you miss the requirements listed when you were submitting your info?” Josefina asked coolly. “Approval isn’t just about grades. Grades show your skills, but they don’t paint the whole picture of who you are.”
Lydia’s eyes flashed with irritation, though she quickly masked it. Was Josefina implying she had no integrity? Lydia felt her temper rising; that wasn’t who she was at all!
“Josefina, are you saying Lydia’s got no integrity?” Joelle asked, looking at Lydia. “She just called you out.”
The students gathered around, eager to witness the drama, burst into laughter.
“Looks like Joelle and Lydia have some beef, huh? Haha!”
Lydia’s face turned a shade of red, but she forced a smile. “Joelle, come on, don’t twist her words. Josefina didn’t mean it like that.”
