Oliver noticed it too, his face showing a hint of surprise, and without exchanging a word, he and Josefina made a beeline for the exit.
Oliver took the wheel, and Josefina jumped into the passenger seat.
As they sped down the road, Josefina already had Darren on the line. “Darren, we need you to head over to the prison and keep an eye on Dominic. We’re on our way.”
“Got it.”
With that, Josefina hung up. Oliver drove like he was in a high-stakes race, the scenery blurring past them.
“Oliver, step on it!”
“Josie, if I go any faster, I’m worried you won’t be able to handle it.”
“I can handle it. Just floor it, now!”
Oliver sighed, a bit exasperated but unable to resist Josefina’s urgency, so he pressed the pedal to the metal.
...
When they finally arrived, Dominic was there, tied up and looking just like they remembered, seemingly unfazed by everything around him.
Josefina took a moment to catch her breath, while Oliver stood protectively by her side.
Just then, Darren came rushing in, panting from the effort. He’d been orchestrating everything over the phone and had hustled over as soon as he could.
“What’s going on?” Darren asked, breathless.
Oliver handed him a report. “Check this out first.”
Darren read through it, and by the time he reached the end, he was frozen in shock. “This guy isn’t the real Dominic!” he exclaimed, stunned.
Oliver was just as taken aback. Those folks had managed to pull a switcheroo right under their noses. They’d infiltrated deep!
Darren started firing off messages on his phone and stepped outside to make a call.
Dominic, still tied up, listened in on their conversation as if it didn’t concern him, sitting there calmly.
“How did you find out? Wasn’t my act convincing enough?” Dominic asked.
