No matter what anyone else said, the choice was Brandon’s to make. It all came down to whether he believed or not.
He took a slow sip of his pu-erh tea, the sharp lines of his face relaxing just a little.
Bennett didn’t dare say another word, much less ask any more questions.
After a long moment, Brandon finally broke the silence.
“Josie’s pregnant. Did you drop off the gifts I asked you to deliver?”
“Sir, I’m so sorry. With everything going on lately, I completely forgot.” Bennett slapped his forehead, only just remembering.
Brandon let out a quiet sigh. “Forget it. I’ll go with you. We’ll bring them to the Harrison house together.”
He got up, leaning on the cane Josefina had given him.
Bennett stood there stunned for a second, then his face lit up and he hurried after Brandon.
…
When Brandon arrived at the Harrison house, he brought an endless stream of gifts and supplements.
Grandpa Robert and Emily came out together to meet him.
Brandon blinked in surprise.
“What happened?”
He hadn’t expected them both to come out to greet him.
Grandpa Robert and Emily were still over the moon about Josefina’s pregnancy with twins. Plus, since Brandon had to come all the way to see the babies, they felt kind of sorry for him—he seemed a bit lonely, after all.
So, they both decided to come out and welcome him.
“Come on in, Robert—let’s talk inside.”
Brandon followed them in, still not quite sure what was going on.
He glanced over at Bennett, who just shook his head, signaling he was just as clueless.
Things had seemed normal a moment ago. Why were they suddenly being so warm and welcoming?
Once they’d all sat down, Brandon couldn’t help asking, “Emily, what’s got you both so happy? Is there some big news?”
