As soon as Sandi moved, Josefina slipped on her mask.
Zachary, still shaken from his scare, was covered in sweat.
Wilson smirked, “Josefina, just admit you lost. Maybe I’ll think about letting you stay. All you’ve gotta do is get on your knees, knock your head on the floor, and call me ‘grandpa’ three times. Do that, and I might let you off the hook.”
Zachary tried to reason with her, his voice miserable, “Josefina, just say sorry. Wilson will let it go, I’m sure.”
Kneeling’s gotta be better than getting kicked out, right?
Sandi jumped in too, her tone anxious. “Josefina, just apologize. If you quit, how are you even going to explain that to your family?”
Her worried face said it all—she thought Josefina was way too gutsy for her own good.
Lydia, loving every second of the drama, added her two cents with a sly grin. “Come on, Josefina, just say sorry and kneel. It’s only us here, not the whole school. Trust us, we won’t breathe a word. Three ‘grandpas’ and it’s over—wouldn’t you rather suck it up for a second than be a dropout forever?”
Josefina shot her an icy look. “If you’re so keen on being someone’s grandkid, why don’t you kneel down and start now?”
Lydia’s face changed in an instant. “What’s your problem?”
Josefina just raised an eyebrow. “Then why are you barking at me?”
Lydia’s cheeks burned red. She opened her mouth, but nothing came out.
Wilson huffed, “Josefina, are you just here to waste everyone’s time? Or is this what you do when you’ve got nothing left?”
Josefina didn’t even glance at him. She pulled out her silver needles and got to work.
Zachary sat stiff as a board, barely breathing, terrified that even a peep might mess up Josefina’s treatment.
Meanwhile, Sandi crept closer, searching for the right moment.
The crowd kept growing, more and more students squeezing in. Some texted friends, telling them to hurry over and watch the show.
Josefina doing a rescue live? That was something no one wanted to miss.
People were dying to see what the top student in this year’s finals could actually do.
They’d all heard Josefina’s book smarts were top-tier, but no one had seen her in action.
As even more people poured in, Sandi was stunned.
