Josefina had never met the man before, but something about him faintly reminded her of Oliver.
She didn’t say anything, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that his gaze was fixed on her, like he knew her or something.
Just as Josefina was about to leave, he called out, “Josefina?”
She took a couple of quick steps before turning to face him.
He was still smiling, like an old friend you hadn’t seen in years.
Puzzled, Josefina asked, “Do we know each other?”
He replied, “You might not recognize me, but I certainly know you.”
With a charming smile and a gentle voice, he extended his hand. “I’m Dominic. You saved my life at the hospital last time. I’ve been meaning to thank you in person, but I’ve been under the weather and couldn’t get through to your phone.”
Thing was, Josefina had blocked Dominic’s number, so his calls never came through.
But Dominic hadn’t tried to contact her through any other means, and over time, Josefina had forgotten about the whole incident, about him.
Josefina looked at Dominic’s outstretched hand and felt no inclination to shake it.
If Dominic was an enemy of Oliver, then he was her enemy too.
That’s when Oliver arrived.
Striding swiftly, Oliver pulled Josefina to his side, his protective instincts kicking into overdrive.
Dominic observed their close interaction and said with a laugh, “I’m just showing gratitude to my lifesaver. Oliver, you seem a bit too tense.”
Oliver’s cool gaze bore into Dominic as he wrapped an arm around Josefina. “Josie, let’s go.”
She nodded, and they left, treating Dominic as if he were thin air.
Dominic watched their retreating figures, a cunning smile playing on his lips.
Oliver really did care about Josefina.
When Lauren heard Ruby hadn’t shown up to meet her son, she knew something had gone wrong.
“Did you intercept Ruby on her way out of the country? If it wasn’t you, who else would do such a thing?”
Josefina, arms crossed, chuckled. “Lauren, are you suffering from paranoia? Whether or not Ruby left the country, I honestly have no clue.”
“If it wasn’t your doing, it must have been Oliver! He must be acting under your orders, targeting my Ruby. Josefina, your heart is so cold!”
“Are you done, Lauren?” Josefina asked coldly.
“No, I’m not done, Josefina. Why are you targeting Ruby? I’m already in jail because of you. What more do you want?”
Josefina remained silent…
Indeed, trying to reason with someone out of touch with reality was only going to infuriate oneself.
“Josefina, can’t you just let Ruby go?” Lauren pleaded, tears brimming in her eyes.
