Albert flashed a friendly smile and nodded at Reid.
But Reid just turned and walked away, clearly uninterested in Albert's attempt at goodwill.
Albert was bewildered.
He had made the effort to smile, what more did Reid want?
If it hadn't been for the boss's sake, he wouldn't have bothered trying to smile at all.
Reid was just so dull.
As Albert was about to show Josefina a look of exasperation, he realized she had already rushed over to Reid, showering him with praise.
"Wow, Reid, you're amazing. Getting second place in such a tough robotics competition, you're my hero. Reid, you're awesome!" Josefina gave him a thumbs up.
Albert couldn't help but think how well the boss played the game of flattery.
And look at Reid, basking in the adoration!
Albert greeted his teammates, and Reid cringed upon hearing Albert's voice.
"Sis, thanks for the encouragement. I promise I'll snag first place next time!"
"Reid, second place is fantastic. You've worked so hard."
Reid smiled, handing the trophy to Josefina, "Sis, this is for you."
"Thank you, Reid." She accepted it with both hands.
Reid breathed a sigh of relief. As long as his sister didn't look down on him for getting second place, all was well. She truly was kind-hearted and beautiful!
Hattie didn't tease Reid either. The poor kid had enough on his plate.
"Reid, you did great. Mom's proud of you," Hattie comforted.
Reid felt awkward, having assured Hattie he'd win first place, but then not delivering. The booked private room now seemed a bit embarrassing.
Even Garrett felt the awkwardness, a total face-palm moment.
Josefina added, "Oliver, you must be busy, right? With Dominic losing the competition and you recording it, he's bound to come after you."
Reid agreed, "My sister's right. He'll definitely be looking for you. Oliver, you better head back. We appreciate the support, and I'll treat you to a meal later."
Reid remembered Hattie had also ordered a cake.
Imagine how embarrassing it would be if Oliver were there when the cake arrived!
Reid signaled Josefina, hoping she'd quickly usher Oliver away.
Josefina got the hint immediately, "Reid's got a point, Oliver. You should head back to the office and check in."
