Calix hurried over, his steps quick and purposeful. Josefina spotted him and turned to Oliver with a quick nod. "Hey, could you pull over? Looks like Calix is back. I want to see what's going on."
Oliver parked the car, and Josefina hopped out with a smile. "Calix, you're back!" she exclaimed, her face lighting up as she approached him.
Calix was practically bouncing with excitement. "Sis, I've got something special for you. Come on, let's go check it out."
Oliver chimed in from the car, "Hey, I want to see what you've got for Josie too!"
Calix shot back, clearly annoyed, "Mind your own business, Oliver. This is between me and my sister."
Turning to Josefina, Calix urged, "Go ahead inside, sis. I need to have a word with Oliver."
Josefina caught Oliver's eye, and with an understanding look from him, she went inside.
Once she was out of earshot, Calix faced Oliver, "Listen, Oliver, back off from my sister."
Oliver, unfazed, replied, "Calix, Josie's your sister, but she's also my fiancée. I've been serious about her for a while now. Your parents are on board with us. Are you really going to stand in our way? You want to make Josie upset?"
"Of course not! She's my sister," Calix retorted, his frustration palpable.
"But your actions are doing just that—making her upset."
Calix paused, momentarily at a loss for words.
"Oliver, don't count your chickens before they hatch. You and Josie aren't set in stone. There are plenty of great guys out there. Who says she has to settle down? Maybe she doesn't even want to get married."
Oliver flashed a confident smile, "Relax. When Josie and I tie the knot, you’ll have the best seat in the house."
With that, Oliver strode off, and Calix, fuming, hurried after him. "Oliver, hold up! I didn’t say you could come in!"
Oliver pretended not to hear, making good use of his long legs to stride away quickly.
