Calix just couldn't let it slide and said, “I don’t see what’s so amazing about Oliver.”
“Well, you haven’t dated Oliver, so how would you know if he’s good or bad?”
Calix was left at a loss for words.
“Carter, you haven’t really spent time with Oliver, so you can’t just label him a bad guy, right? Josie and Oliver seem to get along just fine. If Josie’s into him, I’m all for it.”
Calix stayed quiet, thinking, Why does it seem like I'm the bad guy here?
“Carter, think it over. I’m heading inside.”
...
The gift Calix gave Josefina was a stunning antique lantern, worth a cool fifteen million dollars.
The lantern’s gentle, welcoming glow drew everyone’s attention.
“Sis, I heard about this lantern at an auction. I went undercover to snag it. It’s perfect for you.”
“Thanks, Calix. I absolutely love it.”
“As long as you’re happy, sis, it’s money well spent.”
Oliver chimed in, “Calix, you’ve got a real talent for picking gifts.”
“No need to tell me, I already know,” Calix said with a smirk.
Oliver stayed silent. No matter what Calix said, his expression didn’t change.
...
Josefina, after a nice bath with her hair wrapped in a towel, called up Orla.
“Orla, your designs this season are fantastic. We’re going to use them for the next quarter.”
Orla was thrilled. Getting Josefina’s nod always made her day.
“Thank you, Ms. Josefina, for believing in me.”
Not much later, Brandon showed up.
Brandon sat down and placed a share transfer agreement on the table.
“Oliver, your dad’s gone off the rails, asking for company shares. These are my shares. I’m transferring them to you. Sign it, and he can forget about getting anything!”
“Couldn't you just avoid meeting him?” Oliver asked sharply.
“You know your dad’s temper. The staff knows about us; I couldn’t just ignore him. Plus, being a father isn’t a walk in the park,” Brandon sighed.
Oliver let out a scoff, “He plays the son in front of you and acts like a grandson in front of Sydney.”
Brandon was taken aback.
“Oliver, spare me the details. Hearing all this is hard.”
With a cold edge, Oliver replied, “If it’s so painful, why not just cut out the source of your pain sooner rather than later?”
Brandon was stunned, “Oliver, what are you planning?”
