Josefina was lugging her newly bought bedding set to the parking lot when, just her luck, she bumped into Mandy and Shay. The two were walking together, chatting and laughing like they didn't have a care in the world. The moment Mandy spotted Josefina, a flash of disdain flickered across her eyes. Shay, however, kept her cool, masking whatever she might have been feeling.
Josefina wasn't in the mood for any drama. She just kept walking. She couldn’t understand how the Lopez family, known for their cleverness, ended up with someone like Mandy. Maybe they’d sheltered her too much, leaving her clueless about the real world?
“Josefina!” Shay called out. “You just passed your cousin without even a hello. That’s pretty rude, don’t you think?”
Mandy sneered, full of herself. “Rude? She never learned manners. My aunt picked her up after eighteen years—what kind of upbringing could she possibly have?”
Josefina shot back, "Oh, so having manners means talking trash and throwing shade? If that's what it is, then you two are nailing it!”
Mandy and Shay were momentarily stunned into silence.
Mandy fired back, “My aunt only took you in out of guilt, not because you belong. Do you really think you’re Ms. Harrison of the Harrison family?”
“Maybe I’m not Ms. Harrison, but are you?” Josefina retorted.
Shay tried to mediate, “Mandy is still your cousin. How can you speak to her like that?”
“And you? Her trusty sidekick, always plotting behind the scenes. She’s out there doing the dirty work while you stay in the shadows. What does that make you?”
Once again, Mandy and Shay had nothing to say.
Josefina continued, “Got anything else? If not, save the drama. I’m not a vet; I can’t fix whatever’s wrong with you.”
Mandy was fuming. “Josefina, you're too full of yourself!”
“Well, I’ve got every reason to be. My parents adore me, my three brothers spoil me, I’ve got money, power, looks, and love. Why wouldn’t I stand tall in front of you?”
Josefina added, “Mandy, do you really think if you keep running around with Shay, your parents will still love you? They’ve cherished you—is this how you’re going to repay them?”
Mandy’s face fell, and she didn’t say a word.
