Oliver nodded with satisfaction and added, "Let's have the kitchen whip up a hearty chicken soup for the missus. She could use a little pick-me-up."
After a moment's thought, he continued, "I doubt she'll be up for lunch, so let's aim to have dinner ready by two."
With his instructions given, Oliver opened his laptop and started handling work remotely.
...
Josefina woke up to find it was already one in the afternoon. As she made her way downstairs, the first thing she noticed was Oliver in his home office, looking as if he never got tired.
Oliver turned, saw Josefina, and got up to greet her, sweeping her into his arms.
"Oliver, why are you carrying me?" she asked, surprised.
"Walking's a hassle; I'm carrying you to lunch," he replied with a grin.
Josefina was left speechless.
As soon as Josefina sat down, the staff began bringing out dish after dish. Famished, she dove into the meal with enthusiasm.
Oliver joined her, enjoying the meal by her side.
After they were both satisfied, Josefina decided it was time to leave. "I've got things to handle this afternoon. I should get going."
"Josie, what's more important to you, me or those tasks?" Oliver asked, a hint of jealousy in his voice.
Josefina arched an eyebrow. Was Oliver actually getting jealous?
"And you have the nerve to ask? If it wasn't for you dragging me over here, I wouldn’t have been too exhausted to get my work done," she retorted, arms crossed, feigning anger.
As expected, her mock anger threw Oliver off balance.
"Josie, don’t be mad, it's all my fault. I apologize," he quickly reassured her.
Then Josefina remembered something else that irked her. "Why do you have a stash of... those things?" she asked, recalling the condoms she found in his bedside table drawer the previous night.
Oliver tried to explain, "I figured it was bound to happen sooner or later, so I was prepared. Not just in my place, but the house next door too."
After inspecting it briefly, Josefina was satisfied. "Shay and Sydney are already taken care of; they shouldn’t be a problem for you anymore."
"What!" Jarred exclaimed, shocked. He couldn’t believe Sydney and Shay could be dealt with so easily.
"It wasn’t me; someone else took care of it," Josefina clarified. She wouldn’t allow those two any chance of resurgence.
Jarred had an epiphany, "Whoever could deal with them must be highly skilled in both medicine and poisons. Ms. Josefina, please be careful."
Josefina simply nodded.
Jarred pondered for a moment but then remembered Josefina's capabilities. Why should she fear any threats?
"I’ll be off then. Keep an eye on things here. And be cautious, especially now. I’m concerned Sydney’s group might try to collaborate with us to steal information."
"Ms. Josefina, you can count on me to be vigilant and not cause you any trouble."
With another nod, Josefina took the medicine and left.
