Jane, following Alfie's lead, went ahead and booked the priciest spot in Westwood. The table alone was a steep fifty grand, with another grand just to secure the private room. And if that wasn't enough, they picked out a red wine for Jane that set her back another fifty grand.
The grand total for this apology? A staggering $101,000, something Jane was sure she'd never forget.
Forced into this situation, Jane swung open the door of the private room, only to be greeted by a room full of people that nearly knocked the wind out of her.
What in the world was Alfie thinking? Why were so many people here?
It was all just too much for Jane to handle at once.
Alfie got up and walked over to her.
"Time to say you're sorry."
Grinding her teeth in frustration, Jane hissed, "Why all these people, Alfie? Are you messing with me?"
"When have I ever messed with you? These folks are all part of Josie's family and her boyfriend. Did you really think you could leave Westwood without them witnessing your apology in person?"
Jane's eyes landed on Oliver, whose intense gaze seemed to pierce right through her, sending a chill down her spine.
"So, I apologize, and then I can leave?"
Alfie chuckled, "You planning on staying for dinner?"
Jane: "..."
Eat? No way!
She was so filled with anger, there was no room for food.
For the sake of keeping her cool, Jane had to swallow her pride and plaster on a smile as she walked in.
With a forced grin, Alfie nudged her, "You know, that smile's worse than crying. Anyone would think you're here for a funeral."
Jane: "..."
Putting up with Alfie's jabs was wearing her down.
In her 70 years, she'd never had to apologize to someone younger, and the experience was excruciating.
Just as Jane hesitated, Oliver's cold voice cut through, "If it's such a hassle, skip the apology. Just head back to where you came from!"
Dorian didn't make time to see Jane drag her feet.
