Josefina was heading home from school, strolling alone down the charming path that wound through campus. Suddenly, the hurried clatter of footsteps behind her broke the peaceful silence.
She spun around, eyes widening in surprise when she saw Xavier rushing towards her. It was clear to Josefina that his presence here wasn't just a happy accident.
Xavier caught up and stopped right in front of her, his intense gaze locking onto hers, making the air around them feel electric.
Without saying a word, Josefina turned to leave, but his voice halted her.
"Josefina, I need to talk to you."
Josefina took a deep breath, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Did you just crawl out of a deep-fryer? You're dripping in grease! Just spill it, no need for all this drama."
Xavier, startled by her sharp words, struggled to respond.
"Why are you targeting me and my mom? We haven't done anything to you. Can't you find someone else to bother?" he asked, genuinely confused.
"When have I ever gone after you or your mom? If things are rough for you, how is that my fault? Isn't it just your own doing?" Josefina shot back, her puzzled look only irritating Xavier more.
"It must be something you said to my granddad. Our family was doing just fine before he met you. Now look at us," Xavier accused, frustration clear in his voice.
"Keep your distance. I get claustrophobic around people who lack basic sense, and you're on a whole new level," Josefina said, stepping back to create a gap between them.
Seeing his words fall flat, Xavier forced a strained smile, clearly agitated.
"So what do you want? What will it take for you to talk to my granddad?"
