Oliver pulled up at the curb and hopped out to open the door for Josefina with a flourish. She settled into the passenger seat, and Oliver, always the gentleman, made sure her seatbelt was snug.
"Oliver, it's my cousin's birthday. What are you tagging along for?"
"Well, your cousin's practically family to me too. We run into each other all the time. If I don't show up now, what if she holds it against us and tries to come between us after we're married?"
Josefina chuckled at his reasoning, feeling at a bit of a loss for a comeback.
"With logic like that, I guess you have to come."
A smile teased at Oliver's lips as they arrived together. Josefina wore a simple yet stunning white sundress that highlighted her beauty.
"Link arms with me," Oliver suggested, offering his arm.
Before she could take it, Dorian showed up.
"Hey sis, let's head in together."
Oliver just sighed. Dorian's timing was impeccable.
Caught between the two, Josefina felt torn. But then, Sylvie appeared.
"Josie!"
Sylvie waved her over, providing a welcome distraction.
"I've got to catch up with my friend. Be right back!"
Josefina joined Sylvie, noting how much brighter and healthier she seemed. Clearly, the family drama had been sorted out.
"Josie, I owe you big time. Grandma woke up and pointed the finger at my uncle. She's kicked him out and wants to thank you properly once she's better."
"Seriously, it's no biggie. Helping you out was like helping myself."
Sylvie was all gratitude. "You're too modest, Josie. My parents and grandma want to thank you in person."
