Josefina was seething, barely holding back a torrent of curses that would make a sailor blush. The guy in front clearly had the physical advantage. She quickly sized him up and aimed a swift kick at his groin, hoping to catch him off guard. But he caught Josefina’s right leg with an almost insulting ease. Desperate, she kicked his shin with her left leg. He winced, and in that fleeting moment of pain, she slipped free.
"What’s your problem? We’ve got no beef, and here you are, picking a fight," she snapped.
He shot back, "What are you doing here? Who sent you?"
"I’m not here to be your enemy, but I’m not sticking around for chit-chat. Bye!" Josefina turned on her heel and left, her mind racing with concern for Shay. Living like Shay was tougher than death itself.
…
Shay was rushed to the hospital in record time, thanks to Sydney's quick thinking. She had tracked Shay’s location via her phone. Unable to reach her by phone, Sydney headed to the scene with the ambulance.
Standing outside the operating room, Sydney’s face was stormy, her eyes fierce with worry. Dominic looked utterly defeated, like he'd been hit by a freight train. When Rowan arrived, Sydney’s fierce demeanor melted away in an instant, replaced by tears streaming down her face.
"Rowan, someone ran Shea down. It was a deliberate hit-and-run!"
"Do we know who did it?" Rowan asked.
"Not yet, the cops are still on it," Sydney replied, wiping away her tears, visibly shaken.
