It was a peaceful evening when Josefina stepped into the restaurant Alex had picked for dinner. Just as she reached the door, she bumped into Bobby.
“Ms. Josefina, what are the odds!” Bobby said, grinning as he came over.
They were about to head inside when, out of nowhere, a drunken guy with a knife lurched towards them, waving it around like a madman.
“Ms. Josefina, look out!” Bobby yelled, his face going pale. Without a second thought, he jumped in front of Josefina, taking the knife strike meant for her.
The blade slashed into Bobby's back, and blood started pouring out.
Josefina quickly kicked the drunk away, and just then, Alex and Kale showed up, managing to pin the guy down with help from the growing crowd. If it weren't for all the people around, Alex and Kale might have been tempted to rough him up a bit more.
Josefina whipped out her phone to call an ambulance and grabbed some hemostatic powder from her bag to sprinkle on Bobby's wound.
The ambulance arrived in no time, rushing Bobby off to the hospital. Josefina followed in her car, calling Percy to arrange for surgery.
…
Josefina, Kale, and Alex waited anxiously outside the operating room.
Josefina's phone buzzed with a call from Luke.
“Boss, I did some digging. That drunk's known for his antics—throwing stuff at folks when he's hammered. No one saw this coming, though, him pulling a knife. But it seems like he wasn't put up to it by anyone.”
Feeling relieved, Josefina ended the call. She wasn’t usually paranoid, but she had to be careful.
“Kale,” Josefina instructed, “give Bobby a month off. I’ll cover her medical bills and any lost wages.”
After all, Bobby got hurt protecting her, and it wouldn’t be right for Bobby to cover the costs.
The police would handle the drunken man.
Alex chimed in, “I should’ve been more careful when picking the restaurant. If I’d kept up with the news, maybe this wouldn’t have happened.”
