As Josefina and Calix were heading out, they ran into Oliver. Oliver, having caught wind that Josefina was nearby, had wrapped up his work in record time and hurried over.

“What are you doing here? My sister’s coming home with me,” Calix said, his voice laced with protective urgency.

Oliver stepped closer to Josefina. “I’m here to take Josie out for dinner.”

Calix had initially planned for Josie to have dinner at home, but a quick glance at his watch told him it was getting late. Feeling guilty yet not wanting his sister to go hungry, he relented. “Alright, sis, go have dinner with Oliver, but don’t forget to come home early, okay?”

“Sure thing, Calix. You should head home early too,” Josefina nodded, already thinking about the tasks she still had to tackle.

With a quick goodbye, Josefina parted ways with Calix and left with Oliver. Calix watched them leave, worry etched on his face, before turning back to handle his own responsibilities.

Oliver took Josefina to a cozy little spot known for its hot pot, perfect for a chilly winter evening. But as soon as she reached the entrance, Josefina felt a wave of discomfort and stepped back.

“Josie, are you okay? Do you need to go to the hospital?” Oliver asked, his voice full of concern.

Josefina waved him off. “I had an iced coffee earlier, and now my stomach’s acting up,” she admitted, with a slight grimace.

Oliver gently rubbed her back. “It’s freezing out, Josie. You shouldn’t be drinking iced coffee. How can you enjoy a nice meal if your stomach’s upset?”

“I’m fine, really,” she insisted.

“Let’s skip the hot pot, Josie. We’ll get some soup instead. You shouldn’t have anything spicy if your stomach’s upset,” Oliver said, ignoring any protests she might have.

Back home, Calix filled the family in on the day’s events. He was worried they might unknowingly put Josefina in another uncomfortable situation like today’s.

After he finished, a heavy silence filled the room, with grim expressions on every face.
