After breakfast, Alfie had some errands to run, so he headed out first. Nanshan, feeling a bit excited, pulled a bracelet from his pocket and handed it to Josefina. "Master, I got this for you with my wages."
Luke raised an eyebrow, surprised. "Hey, you little rascal, you’re eating my food and crashing at my place, but no gift for me?"
Nanshan smirked, "I heard from my master you’d be getting some money, so I’m not exactly freeloading."
Luke just rolled his eyes and sighed. "Well, well, Nanshan, you’re one sharp cookie. Nothing gets past you."
Josefina chuckled softly, keeping her thoughts to herself, as she, Luke, and Nanshan left the diner and strolled down the street.
Across the street, Sydney was wide-eyed, watching the trio disappear into the distance.
"Mom, what are you staring at?" Shay asked, noticing her mother's intense gaze.
Ignoring the question, Sydney quickly pulled out her phone, snapped a surreptitious photo, and ducked her head, worried someone might notice.
She sent the photo with a triumphant grin. "I think I’ve found the missing experiment. I’ve informed the lab to check. If it’s really the one, our mistake will surely be forgiven."
Shay’s eyes widened with excitement. "Really? That’s amazing! Mom, you should call them to confirm."
Sydney shook her head, "A call won’t do any good. We have to wait for their response."
She knew she didn’t have the authority to make such calls, so she had to be patient.
Shay, still curious, pondered aloud, "Why is Josefina with the experiment? Who is she, and why is she mixed up in our business?"
Sydney was equally puzzled about Josefina’s true identity. "I saw her meet with Alfie. She’s his apprentice, but how could an apprentice have such influence? I need to report this to headquarters and let them decide what to do."
