Upon hearing the words, Josefina couldn't help but take a closer, more skeptical look at Dominic. Sydney and Shay were losing their cool, spiraling into panic, while Dominic managed to keep his composure and speak rationally. Josefina gave a wry smile, crossing her arms as she surveyed the three disheveled figures before her.
"Dominic," she began, her tone light and teasing, "I'm curious whether it's Oliver who's destined for a jail cell, or if it'll be the three of you."
Oliver leaned in, whispering close to Josefina's ear, "I brought them here for you. You can go ahead with the experiment to eliminate the queen parasite. If we can't find it, we might have to resort to bloodletting. And if that doesn't work, well, no big deal."
In other words, Rowan's fate was sealed.
Sydney, wide-eyed with fear, shouted, "Oliver, how can you be so heartless!"
Shay struggled to stand, but her legs, tied and numb, wouldn't cooperate. "Let us go! I can apologize. We can leave. Just please, let us go," Shay pleaded, her arrogance melting into desperation. For once, she was genuinely sorry, driven by a simple, primal urge to survive.
Josefina pulled Oliver aside, questioning him quietly, "You never went this far with them before. Why the change of heart now?"
"Because," Oliver replied, his voice steady, "I didn't have control of the shares Rowan held back then, nor did I want the company in their hands. Now that I've secured the shares, I tried to have them taken out, but they were protected. Last night, I finally found an opening to bring them here."
Josefina nodded thoughtfully. "Even if we find the queen parasite, killing it might leave the host in a weakened state. They might not survive much longer, even if we save them."
Oliver's face remained calm, his voice unwavering, "That's just how it is. Everyone has their fate, and you can't fight destiny."
Josefina, hearing his resolve, made up her mind. "Alright, I'll destroy the queen parasite now." She instructed, "Go grab my medical kit."
