Dorian and Reid walked in from work, only to hear the bombshell news that Oliver was planning to marry Josefina. Both brothers were instantly on high alert and rushed inside.
“Oliver,” Dorian began, “you haven’t even known my sister for six months. How can you be so sure about marrying her? What if you change your mind down the road?”
Reid jumped in, “Yeah, it’s been such a short time. Why rush into marriage? We’re not opposed to you two dating, but marriage is a whole different ballgame. It just feels way too soon.”
Hattie’s eyes briefly showed a flicker of sadness, but it quickly disappeared.
“Oliver,” Hattie echoed her sons’ concerns, “I feel the same. I don’t judge marriage by how long you’ve known each other, but I just got my Josie back home. I haven’t had the chance to really care for her, and now she’s getting married? I want to cherish her a little longer.”
Oliver had thought it all through and replied confidently, “I’m willing to live with Josie at the Harrison family home.”
The whole family was taken aback.
None of them had imagined Oliver would suggest something like this, let alone be okay with it.
Was Oliver really not worried about being labeled as a guy who moved in with his in-laws? Did he genuinely want to be a son-in-law living at his wife’s family home?
Oliver continued, “I’ve made up my mind. Josie and I can live here, and you’ll see her every day. When we have kids, we’d love your help with them, too.”
This suggestion almost convinced Hattie. Having Josie around and being involved with future grandkids sounded perfect to her.
Garrett nodded in agreement, liking Oliver’s idea and hoping for such a future.
Dorian and Reid were taken aback by Oliver’s determination. His willingness to make such a decision showed how much he loved Josefina.
The brothers found themselves at a loss for words, realizing that outright refusal might be too harsh.
Dorian, with a calm demeanor, said, “We’ll need to talk to Josie about it.”
