“Any particular reason, Mrs. Hale?”

“Call it due diligence.”

“Understood.”

Then I call Douglas back.

He’s quiet for a moment. “Honestly? Reading through it, I’m more impressed than concerned. The woman has been through situations that would break most people. And she came out strong

“Should we be concerned about the anonymous sender?”

“Leave that to me. Tell the board I’ve reviewed the information and have no concerns about Sabrina Moore’s character. If they have questions, they can address them to me directly.”

“Understood.”

I hang up.

Look at the dossier again.

Rosalie sent this expecting me to use it against Sabrina. To have more ammunition for keeping

them apart.

But I’m a woman of my word. I told her. If she insisted on this path, I would sooner welcome a divorcee as Mrs. Ethan Hale than her.

I value tradition and breeding and social standing.

But I’m not unfair.

And what I see in these documents isn’t a woman seeking wealth and status. I see a woman who’s fought for everything she has. Who’s protected her child against people with more power and more resources. Who’s survived betrayal and violence and public humiliation.

That’s not weakness.

My only concern is if she’ll display the same strength when the tables change? When confronted with society’s judgement and the possible loss of Ethan’s support… will she still be the same woman fighting for herself and her son?

I could tell Ethan about Rosalie. Show him what his sister has been doing behind his back.

But that would create exactly the kind of family drama I’ve spent my life avoiding.

Better to handle this quietly. Test Rosalie first. Confirm my suspicions. Then decide the appropriate response.
