Chapter 30-2
“Fine, what do you need me to do?”
“First, I need you to find out where she’s staying.”
“I told you, I don’t know.”
“But you have her credit card information, right? From when you booked things for her?”
I hesitate. “Yeah, but that’s-that’s an invasion of privacy.”
“So was filming her without permission.”
Again. He has a point. A terrible, unethical point. But a point nonetheless.
Dustin’s using our videos as evidence. Which means we’re part of the problem.”
“I made that mistake before. I’m not making it again.”
“Then our only other option is to become part of the solution. We give Richard ammunition to fight back with. Evidence to show Dustin’s the unstable one, not Sabrina.”
“And where are we going to get evidence like that? Dustin isn’t stupid. He wouldn’t place himself in a situation that can be used against him, now that he’s taken action.”
“I know. But I’ll find it.” His voice turns cold, and I’m reminded that this isn’t just Jason the nice guy anymore. This is a businessman who knows how to look at a problem and search for a solution. “Dustin Reed has been skating by on Sabrina’s talent for years. Taking credit for her work, destroying her confidence, cheating on her, and now trying to take her son. It’s time someone reminded him that actions have consequences.”
“Jason-”
“I’m not going to do anything illegal. But I am going to make sure his past deeds face the light of public judgement. His fraudulent actions during the first years of their marriage, his cheating during their marriage, his abuse of power in their company. I would like to see if he’ll still have the guts to confront Sabrina in court for Jake’s custody when everything comes out.”
I should tell him that’s a bad idea. Sabrina wouldn’t appreciate us airing her dirty laundry without permission.
But I can’t. Because he’s right.
This mess started because of us. Now it’s our responsibility to fix it, by hook or by crook.
As long as Jake’s custody doesn’t go to Dustin, I can deal with anything she throws at me, be it

That possibility makes my heart bleed. Sabrina isn’t only my best friend. She is my only friend. Losing her will be a heavy blow, but I don’t dwell on it. I can’t. Not when I fucked everything up.
“What do you need from me?” I ask.
“Everything you know about Dustin’s work history. Client lists, campaign details, anything that might prove he’s been using Sabrina’s ideas without credit.”
“I can get that. Sterling & Co. is a client of Phoenix. I have access to some of their files.”
“Good. Send them to me. I’ll have my team go through them.”
“Your team?”
A pause. “My legal team. I’m not just a consultant, Sophia. I’m-it doesn’t matter right now. What matters is helping Sabrina.”
I should ask what he means. Should demand to know just how big this legal team of his is.
But right now, I don’t care. If he can help Sabrina, he can be the Queen of England for all I care.
“Okay. I’m in.”
We hang up, and I immediately start pulling files from Phoenix’s server. Campaign documents. Client communications. Anything that might prove Dustin’s been riding Sabrina’s coattails for
