Chapter 83
(Ethan’s POV)
The men exchange glances. The one with the camera slowly lowers it.
“Look man, we were just paid to take some pictures
“Who paid you?”
“Some woman offered cash-”
He stops as the distant sound of sirens, getting closer, reaches the building.
The men exchange glances, then throw the cameras and bolt. All three of them run for a back exit.
I let them go. They’re not important right now.
Sabrina is.
I cross the room in three strides, already working on the ropes binding her wrists. “It’s okay. You’re safe now. I’ve got you.”
She’s shaking so hard she can barely sit upright. “Ethan. How did you-they grabbed me on the road-my car-”
“Shh. Breathe…” The ropes come loose and she collapses forward into my arms.
I hold her as she sobs against my chest, my own hands shaking now with the realization of how close she came to-
No. She’s safe. That’s all that matters.
Police flood the warehouse moments later. Paramedics. My security team.
They try to separate us, to check her for injuries, but Sabrina won’t let go of me. I hold her tight, waving
them away.

Through the chaos of police questions and evidence collection, I catch sight of something on the floor.
The camera one of the men dropped.
I pick it up carefully, turning it on. The screen shows a recording menu. Recent files.
My blood boils as I realize what they were planning. The kind of photos they intended to take.
But there’s something else on the camera. A text message notification still visible on the screen.
“Make sure you get clear shots. She needs to be completely ruined. -J.M.”
J.M.
It couldn’t be a coincidence, right?
O
There’s unly one person who has a beef with Sabrina and that person’s initials just happen to be J. M. Jessica Morgan.
I close my eyes, rage threatening to overwhelm me.
“Mr. Hale?” A detective approaches. “We need Ms. Moore to give a statement”
“Tomorrow.” My voice leaves no room for argument. “You carr question her tomorrow with her attorney present.”
The detective looks like he wants to protest but thinks better of it. “Understood. We’ll be in touch.”
I help Sabrina to her feet, keeping my arm around her waist when her legs threaten to give out.
“Jake,” she says suddenly. “Oh God, Jake. He gets out of school at three and I need to-”
“Don’t worry about him. I’ll call Sophia to pick him up.”
For once, she doesn’t fight me. Just nods weakly and lets me guide her to my car.
As we drive away from the warehouse, I make one more call.
“Richard. I need you to file criminal charges against Jessica Morgan for conspiracy to commit assault. And I need you to do it today. I’ll have evidence delivered to your office within the hour.”
“Is this related to Sabrina?”
“Yes.”
“Then I’ll be on standby for that delivery.”
(Dustin’s POV)
I’m at Jessica’s apartment when the police arrive.
We’ve been fighting for the past hour, ever since I received that call from the cops and found out what she
did.
What she conspired with Freya to do.
“You tried to have Sabrina assaulted?” I’m shouting now, past the point of caring who hears. “Are you
insane?”
“Dustin, please trust me. I didn’t mean it. I acted in the heat of the moment.”
“You paid men to assault her, and you expect me to believe you?”
“I was desperate!” Jessica screams back. “You’re obsessed with her! You won’t let her go! I thought if she was ruined, if Ethan finally saw what kind of woman she really is-”
“She’s the mother of my child! Whatever issues you and I have, whatever problems there are in our relationship-you don’t go after the mother of my child like this!”

“Why not? She went after me! She stule your campaign designs, got us both humiliated in front of clients, destroyed my reputation at Sterling & Co.-”
“Fuck, Jessica! You and both know that campaign design wasn’t mine. It was all created by Sabrina from scratch! Stop lying to yourself, and stop trying to brainwash me!”
The truth of it hangs between us.
For months, I’ve justified everything. Told myself Sabrina deserved what she got. That she was manipulative and vindictive and needed to be taken down a peg
But standing here, looking at the woman I left my wife for, realizing what she’s capable of, what she’d almost done to Sabrina-
I feel sick to my stomach.
