Chapter 91-1
(Sophia’s POV)
My brain stutters. “Then who
“I don’t know. But I’m on my way to Sabrina’s house now. Call Dustin Ask him where Jessica is. Confirm she’s actually still in custody. And find out if he knows anything about Jake
He hangs up and I’m left standing in Sabrina’s driveway, my heart pounding so hard I can feel it in my throat.
I scroll through my contacts. Find Dustin’s number. Haven’t called him in daya. Didn’t even know I still had it saved.
The phone rings twice before he answers. “Hello?”
The
“Where the fuck is Jessica?” I don’t give him time for pleasantries. “And what did she do with Jake?”
“What are you talking about-”
“Jake was picked up from school by a woman claiming to be his stepmother. So where is she and what did she do with him?”
“Jessica’s in jail. She was arrested this afternoon-”
“So everyone keeps telling me! But if she’s in jail, then who took Jake?” My voice is rising. Bordering on hysterical. “Because someone pretending to be his family took him from school. And if it’s not Jessica, then who the hell is it?”
Dustin goes quiet for a beat, then hisses, “Freya.”
“Who?”
“Freya Devin. Ethan’s assistant and Jessica’s cousin. She and Jessica conspired to have Sabrina kidnapped earlier today. They were both arrested. But if they got bail….”
“Do you know where she is?” My voice is deadly calm now. The panic crystallizing into cold fury. “Where
she would take him?”
“No. Sophia, I swear I didn’t know-”
“I don’t care what you knew or didn’t know. Find out where Freya took Jake. You have Jessica’s number
Call her. Threaten her, Bribe her. I don’t give a shit how you do it. Just get me a location. Because I swear,
if your mistress dares to do anything to Jake, I’ll skin her alive, Dustin Reed.”
I hang up before he can respond.
My hands are shaking. My whole body is shaking.
Jake. My buddy.
Where could he be?
If anything happens to that kid-if Freya hurts him in any way! will personally make sure she never sees another peaceful day in her miserable fe agairt.
(Dustin’s POV)
I’m halfway to Sabrina’s house when I see them.
Her. Him. Together.
Sabrina’s sitting in the passenger seat of Ethan Hale’s sleek black car, and even from a distance, I can see the way he’s looking at her. Protective. Possessive. Like she’s something precious that needs guarding.
The way I should have looked at her for seven years but never did.
They pull away from the curb, and I just sit there in my car like an idiot, watching them disappear down the street.
I should follow them. Should pull up beside them at the next light, roll down my window, demand Sabrina listen to me.
But the thought of doing that-of begging for foress while Ethan Hale sits there watching-makes my
stomach turn.
I can already picture it. Me, desperate and pathetic, trying to explain myself. Sabrina, cold and unmoved, telling me to fuck off. And Ethan, probably smirking behind his professional mask, satisfied that he’s won.
No.
