Chapter 91-2
Then I stare at the blank page for twenty minutes.
Nothing comes.
No brilliant ideas. No romantic gestures No meaningful apologies that might actually work.
Just… nothing.
I take a drink. Then another. The whiskey burns but doesn’t help.
How do you win back someone you destroyed? How do you prove you’ve changed when every action you’ve taken proves the opposite?
I think about the seven years we were married. Try to remember moments when I did something thoughtful. Something that showed her I cared.
And I come up empty.
When was the last time I bought her flowers? Took her to dinner without it being a work obligation? Surprised her with something just because?
I can’t remember. Can’t think of a single instance where I put her happiness above my own convenience.
Even our anniversary dinners were chosen based on which restaurants had the best business networking
opportunities.
God, I’m an asshole.
Jake’s birthday parties? Sabrina planned them. Decorated. Made the cake. Invited the guests.
I just showed up and took credit for her work, then disappeared into my study as soon as the guests left. Our household bills? Sabrina managed them. Balanced the budget. Made sure everything was paid on
time.
I just complained when there wasn’t enough money for the things I wanted.
Her career? I took her ideas. Presented them as my own. Won awards and promotions while she smiled supportively from the audience.
And when Jessica came back-when I had the chance to prove my marriage meant something-1 dumped Sabrina without hesitation.
Threw away seven years like they meant nothing.
The whiskey glass is empty. I pour another.
Maybe I don’t deserve forgiveness. Maybe Sabrina’s better off with Ethan Hale and his unlimited resources and his genuine affection.
Moyeske beter off with a New Dad who lotually shows up for parent-teacher conferences and art
Maybe I should just-
My phone rings.
Sophia’s name flashes across the screen
I almost don’t answer. Don’t want to deal with whatever lecture she’s about to deliver about how destroyed her best friend’s life.
But something makes me pick up.
Maybe some instincts, or the need to make things right again driving me to answer.
“Hello?”
“Where the fuck is Jessica?” Sophia’s voice is ice and murder. “And what did she do with Jake? The words don’t make sense. I have to replay them in my head before they connect
“What are you talking about-

My mind races. Jessica’s in jail. I saw them arrest her. Watched them put her in handcuffs and read her
rights.
But they made bail. I got the notification this afternoon. Both Jessica and Freya posted bail and were
released.
Oh God.
“Freya,” I say, the name tasting like ash in my mouth.
“Who?”

“Freya Devin. Ethan’s assistant and Jessica’s cousin. She and Jessica conspired to have Sabrina kidnapped earlier today. They were both arrested. But if they got bail….”
