Chapter 94
(Jessica’s POV)
By the time I make it back to my apartment, it’s nearly midnight.
My phone rings almost immediately. Freya’s name on the screen.
“Where did you go?” Her voice is panicked. Betrayed. “You said you’d come back! The police arrested me! They’re charging me with kidnapping!”
“I had to make sure the cameras were destroyed-”
“You left me! I did what you said and you abandoned me!”
Guilt tries to surface but I push it down. “Freya, listen to me. You need to stay calm. Your father will get you
out. He’ll hire the best lawyers. You’ll be fine.”
“They’re saying I could get twenty years-”
“Don’t believe a fuck of what they say. They’re lying, trying to scare you into confessing everything.” I try to keep my voice calm, confident. “Without evidence or confession from you, they can’t do a thing to you, let
alone convict you. Now here’s what you’re going to do. You’re going to take responsibility for taking Jake
from school. Say everything’s a misunderstanding. You took Jake to meet Sabrina alone, so you can
apologize to her for what you did this morning. Nothing more, nothing less.”
“Are you out of your mind? We brought Jake to such an isolated place, and you think they’re going to
believe me if I spew that kind of bullshit? We-”
“If we both go down, we both go to prison. But if you say exactly what I told you right now-that you
wanted to apologize to Sabrina in person-even if they don’t believe your words, they can’t do anything to
you without evidence. You’ll only get taken for questioning before your father gets you out again.”
“But what about you?”
“I’ll be fine. I’ll say I had no idea what you were planning. That I took Jake from school on your Without the camera footage, they can’t prove otherwise.”
insistence.
“Jessica-”
