Chapter 7
On the way back, Alexander sat in the backseat without saying a word.
The assistant hesitated several times before finally unable to hold back:
“Mr. Wright, if you keep favoring Ms. Wright and hurting Ms. Bennett like this, her heart might truly turn cold.”
Alexander’s aura was heavy and oppressive; he said nothing.
The assistant gathered his courage and continued:
“Ms. Bennett treats you so well.
She used to be the recognized campus beauty at school. From her first day, she had an endless stream of suitors, but she only had eyes for
you.”
“She used to have such a flamboyant personality, but she changed so much for you.
You didn’t like her wearing tight dresses and wavy hair, so she switched to white dresses.”
“When you were busy, your schedule was a mess and your health suffered. She searched everywhere for remedies and learned to make soup herself.
You don’t know this, but at first, her hands were covered in blisters

from burns.”
“That time you drank until your stomach bled during a business deal, she cried all night in the hospital, then pretended everything was fine and smiled at you the next day.”
The assistant couldn’t go on; even he felt it wasn’t worth it for
Fernando.
He and Fernando were alumni, and he had seen with his own eyes
how vibrant and free she used to be.
Now, seeing her constantly suppress herself to please Alexander, yet still failing to match Efrain’s place in Mr. Wright’s heart.
He felt aggrieved for Fernando.
Alexander looked out the window and interrupted in a deep voice: “You talk too much.”
But the assistant couldn’t stop.
Thinking of his own past relationships, he said regretfully:
“Mr. Wright, the human heart is made of flesh. Once disappointment piles up, it’s hard to turn back.”
Alexander’s chest suddenly tightened.
He suddenly remembered that time his stomach bled; he woke up to see Fernando smiling at him with red eyes.
The image flashed in his mind.

The first time she made soup for him, he caught a glimpse of the burn blisters on her hand from the corner of his eye.
He only took one sip and said:
“Don’t make this anymore.”
He just didn’t want her to get hurt.
At that time, a trace of disappointment had flashed in Fernando’s eyes.
Yet still managed to put on a smile:
“Looks like you don’t like the Wild Mushroom Chicken Broth. Next time, I’ll make you Sweet Lotus Seed and Longan Soup.”
The next second, his mind flashed back to the security footage from yesterday-Fernando covered in dirt, eyes brimming with tears.
Alexander suddenly felt like he couldn’t breathe.
He ordered: “Back to the hospital.”
The assistant’s face lit up with joy.
He immediately turned the car around.
Just as the car parked downstairs at the hospital, Alexander’s phone
rang.
Efrain’s teary voice came through:
“Alexander, I slipped in the bathroom. It hurts so much.”

Alexander’s grip on the phone tightened.
He looked up and saw the light in Fernando’s ward was still on.
On the other end of the line, Efrain whined, urging him to come back.
Alexander took a deep breath and glanced at his assistant: “Back to the old estate.”
The assistant opened his mouth to persuade him, but Alexander sharply raised his voice:
“Go back!”
The assistant trembled in fear.
And started the car.
