Curtis ran a hand through her hair. “So, we just have to try a little harder, right?”

She instantly caught what he meant. He wanted her to work harder in bed.

Adriana nodded quickly.

After a quiet moment, she asked, “But… what if Harold kicks you out or takes your shares back?”

Curtis thought for a bit, then smiled. “If you’re pregnant, he has no reason to kick me out. And honestly, he’s too old to run everything himself. If he tried, he’d work himself to death.”

He doubted Harold would actually do that. His grandfather was just trying to push him to marry Nicole.

But after what happened, Harold probably wouldn’t bother Adriana anytime soon.

“Then… I’ll do my best.” Adriana grabbed his hand and tugged him upstairs. “Come on. Let’s go make a baby.”

“Babe…” Curtis chuckled, sounding tired as he wrapped his arms around her from behind. He rested against her while nudging her up the steps. “Be nice to me, okay? I came back overnight and flew all day. I’m dead tired.”

Her ears turned red.

Was Curtis actually acting cute with her?

Her heart started racing, and she didn’t dare look back.

That softer side of him was dangerously charming.

“Didn’t Kenneth say you’d pick up Belinda?” Curtis asked. “Sleep with me for two hours first, then we’ll go together.”

Adriana nodded. “Yeah. She’s been picked on at school. They call her a freeloader and say she’s just living off you. She’s proud, doesn’t want to be a burden, and now she hates school.”

Curtis fell silent for a long while, holding her hand as they walked in. His voice was quiet. “I’m not exactly a great parent. Luckily, I’ve got you.”

Adriana’s chest tightened. Was it because he still loved Cynthia that he treated Belinda so well?

She looked at him carefully. “Can I … ask something?”

“Go ahead,” he said as he changed clothes.

Adriana turned away, her voice soft. “Why haven’t you told Belinda her mom is still alive? She must feel awful not having a mom around.”

Curtis froze halfway through changing.

It took him a moment to answer. “Back then, we weren’t sure Cynthia would ever wake up. Now she’s awake but still battling depression. Her emotions aren’t stable, so for now, I don’t want Belinda to know. I don’t want her to worry or get false hope.”

Adriana nodded.

He was doing it for Belinda’s sake.

Still, Adriana couldn’t help feeling that some things shouldn’t be hidden. But she didn’t want to question his decision.

Curtis took a shower, then pulled Adriana close for a nap.

She curled up quietly in his arms, trying not to move, afraid to wake him.

“Don’t stress about Grandpa. I’ll take care of it. Just rest …” His voice was rough and sleepy as he held her tight.

“Curtis…” Adriana looked up. “Did you ever live in Govendale?”

He stiffened a little, opening his eyes to meet hers. “Yeah…”

“What a coincidence. I lived in Harborton when I was 12.”

Adriana smiled, nestled into his arms, and hugged him tightly. “Let’s sleep. Your eyes are red.”

She gently patted his back, like she was coaxing him to rest.

Curtis swallowed hard. How was he supposed to sleep like that?

He was exhausted, but he wanted Adriana even more.

“Let’s make a baby,” he murmured, flipping her beneath him and kissing her hard.

His kiss was fierce and rough, leaving her breathless.
