Chapter 112 She Can’t Stay

Natasha pulled the ring from the box and tried to slide it onto her left ring finger. Her face fell right away.

It was too tight–it wouldn’t go on at all.

It was obvious the ring wasn’t meant for her.

That realization snapped something inside her. She tossed the ring and box to the floor and started trashing the place, breaking whatever she could get her hands on.

Panic and dread clawed at her. Was that ring meant for Adriana?

Was Matthew planning to marry her?

No way. He had to be out of his mind.

Terrified, Natasha grabbed her phone and called Danielle. “Why was Curtis at the graduation? Didn’t Cynthia already come back?”

“You think first love means forever? You were also Matthew’s first love. Look at him now–he’s all about Adriana,” Danielle teased.

“Shut up!” Natasha yelled, completely losing it.

“Curtis didn’t go himself,” Danielle added calmly. “He sent his driver and a caregiver to pick Cynthia up.”

Natasha’s panic grew worse. What was so special about Adriana that both Matthew and Curtis were drawn to her?

“Adriana can’t stay … She can’t…” Natasha muttered, her throat raw.

“Curtis is crazy right now. He’s targeting my dad’s company, and I can’t head back to Haldoria. You’re on your own,” Danielle replied, clearly done with Natasha’s drama.

Natasha ended the call and kicked the coffee table hard./

There was no way she was going to lose to some orphan. Not happening!

At Curtis‘ house.

Curtis gently set Adriana down and checked the time. “Get some rest. I have things to take care of.”

She nodded, but she couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling twisting in her chest.

He’s probably going to see Cynthia.

She went back to the couch and stared at the ring on her finger for a long time.

She’d never thought she’d ever wear a wedding ring, have a home, or feel like she belonged anywhere.

It still felt like a dream she never wanted to wake from–something she’d wanted her whole life.

It felt like being broke and suddenly finding a winning lottery ticket worth millions.

It was an unknown number.

“Hello?”

“It’s me.” It was Matthew, using his driver’s phone.

He sounded annoyed because she’d blocked all his other numbers.

“Mr. Langford, what do you want?” Adriana asked, steady but cold,

“I’m outside. Come out.” He sounded impatient.

Adriana froze, nerves tightening in her stomach. She glanced out the window. His car was right there.

“I … I’m going to bed. What do you need?” she said quickly, trying to end the call.

“I can see you. Come out. I just want to talk,” Matthew said, his voice low, commanding, but strained.

“There’s nothing left to talk about. Goodbye.” She hung up.

Fuming, Matthew sent a message. “Cynthia is back in Haldoria. She’s fine now and can walk again. Curtis told her that once she’s fully recovered, he’ll divorce you. Want to come see for yourself?”

Adriana read the text silently, then ignored it.

Matthew hadn’t expected her to be so stubborn.

He cursed under his breath and kept calling, but she’d blocked him again.

His eyes twitched in anger. Adriana was really starting to push his buttons.

“Adriana! Get out of here!” Matthew finally snapped, shouting toward the house.

Yeah, that probably counted as disturbing the peace.

Adriana froze. Was he drunk or just crazy?

Why was he yelling like that in front of someone else’s place?
