He figured she had no clue how risky it was to get caught between the Bartons and the Lincolns.

“I don’t care if I’m being used,” Adriana said flatly, clearly done with the conversation.

“Adriana, what do I have to do to make you believe me? Do you want me to rip my heart out and hand it to you?” Matthew asked, his voice full of frustration and emotion.

He couldn’t believe he’d fallen for someone like her. It drove him crazy.

“You only ever give me worthless stuff,” Adriana said, turning to look at him.

Every time he tried to cheer her up before, it was with meaningless gifts.

But when it came to Natasha, he never hesitated to spend big.

Matthew froze, wondering if that meant his heart was also worthless.

“I actually care about you. Curtis only sees you as a means to an end. Matthew tried to keep his cool. “Do you really need to hit rock bottom before you understand that?”

Adriana stayed silent.

“Come out here,” he said again, not wanting to keep shouting through the gate.

But she didn’t move.

“Remember that girl you asked me to help four years ago? She just finished her SATS and wants us to go with her to pick her college major,” Matthew said, pulling out his last card.

He had too much history with Adriana. Curtis could never compete with that.

Adriana hesitated. Bonnie’s doll handbook had one strict rule–never secretly meet another man behind her sugar daddy’s back.

It’d only make him angry, jealous, and disgusted.

But the girl finishing her SATS felt like something worth celebrating. So she texted Curtis, “Matthew helped

a girl four years ago, and now she’s done with her SAT. Can I go see her with him?”

He didn’t reply.

Adriana felt a little disappointed. He was probably busy.

“Curtis doesn’t have time for you,” Matthew said with a mocking smile. His jealousy was obvious.

“Just give me the address. I’ll go alone. I’m not riding with you,” Adriana said firmly.

Matthew’s chest tightened with anger. He never took her marriage to Curtis seriously. He figured they’d split sooner or later. To him, it was just pretending.

But she kept testing his limits on purpose.

Matthew let out a cold laugh.

He knew she was stubborn, but that was on another level.

“You really want to cut me off completely? You say you don’t love me, but if that’s true, why block me at all? If you didn’t care, you’d just ignore me,” Matthew said, trying to get a reaction out of her.

Adriana said nothing.

“I’m leaving now,” he said finally. “Don’t make her wait. I’ll send you a friend request–just accept it.”

Without giving her a chance to argue, Matthew got in his car and drove off.

She stared at her phone for a while before finally accepting his request.

In his car, Matthew looked at her contact name and let out a small laugh. Somehow, he felt a bit better.

He wasn’t giving up on her.

He was going to treat her right this time and love her for real.

He believed she’d come back to him one day.

“Tell Cynthia to keep Curtis busy. I don’t want him getting in my way,” Matthew said into the phone, calling someone from the sanatorium.

Cynthia held onto the railing, taking shaky steps. She gave Curtis a bright smile as he supported her. “Curtis, look! I can walk! My legs are working again!”

He smiled softly. “That’s great. You did it.”

Overwhelmed, Cynthia started crying. She lost her footing and stumbled right into Curtis‘ arms.

A caregiver nearby quickly took a photo of them. From that angle, it looked like a really close moment. Cynthia clung to him, still crying. “Curtis, I finally stood up

He helped her stand steady and encouraged her. “You’re doing great. Once you get a bit stronger, I’ll bring Belinda to see you.”
