Adriana finally enjoyed a few quiet days.

“Why isn’t my period here yet… ” she muttered after breakfast, clutching her lower abdomen as a sharp pain hit her. She rushed into the bathroom.

If she wasn’t pregnant, it should have come already.

After using the toilet, she saw a faint streak of blood on the tissue.

She exhaled, relieved for a moment–but then her heart sank like a stone. So she really wasn’t pregnant.

She put on a pad and got ready to go out.

She’d promised Belinda they’d go shopping.

“Adriana.” Eva’s face looked uneasy as she came down the stairs, her eyes darting nervously. “Where are you going?”

“I’m heading out with Belinda,” Adriana said honestly.

Eva hesitated for a long moment before speaking. “Mr. Lincoln’s gone on a business trip to Hillcrest City. He’ll be away for at least two weeks. Be careful. Don’t wander around too much.”

“I know, Eva.” Adriana nodded.

“Mr. Harold came to Haldoria. He didn’t tell anyone.” Eva finally blurted it out.

He’d come while Curtis was away.

He wanted to confirm whether Adriana was truly carrying the Lincoln family’s child.

Adriana’s chest tightened. Harold came himself?

“It was Danielle,” Eva said, angry. “She went running to Mr. Harold, saying you’re not pregnant.”

Adriana’s hands clenched. Harold clearly wanted the truth.

If he found out she wasn’t pregnant, he’d definitely force her to leave.

She took a slow breath and looked down. “I understand.”

Eva frowned, worried. “Adriana, tell me the truth. Are you pregnant or not?”

She thought as long as Adriana carried Curtis’s baby, her place in the family would be secure.

“What’s wrong? Afraid to get in?” he asked coldly.

Of course she wouldn’t dare. She’s a liar–she was never pregnant. “She tricked you and Curtis,” Nicole said, sitting close beside Harold and holding his arm affectionately as she looked at Adriana with open provocation.

Adriana stood there nervously, unsure if she should call Curtis.

“Don’t bother trying to reach him,” Harold said sternly. “He’s gone to Hillcrest City and won’t be back anytime soon. Get in the car.”

Years in business had made his presence commanding, the kind that made people instinctively obey.

Adriana nodded and got into the passenger seat.

She knew they were taking her to the hospital for a blood test.

Three days ago, the pregnancy test was still blank. Now, she was spotting–there was no way she could fake it anymore.

Seeing her get into the car, Eva rushed outside in panic. She slapped her thigh, thinking hard, then decided to call Curtis even if it cost her job.

“Mr. Lincoln,” she said breathlessly, “Mr. Harold showed up in Haldoria while you’re away. He took Adriana with him, and Nicole’s there too!”

Eva remembered how Adriana had once stood up for her, even slapping Nicole on her behalf.
