“If Curtis truly cares about you, that’s good… but how long can a wealthy person’s sincerity really last?” Margaret said with concern.

“Margaret, you don’t need to worry. I have a plan to stand on my own before his sincerity runs out,” Adriana replied confidently.

She knew she had nothing right now, but she didn’t mind keeping her head down and waiting for the right moment.

She didn’t think there was anything shameful about using a man as a stepping stone.

She didn’t come from a good family, and she genuinely needed a man to help her get ahead.

“I believe you,” Margaret said softly, giving her hand a warm pat. “You’ve always been strong- minded, even if you look gentle on the outside.”

Margaret stayed in Haldoria for a couple of days. Adriana took her out to shop, grabbed some presents for the kids at the orphanage, and then arranged her flight back home.

During that time, Curtis didn’t reach out at all. Adriana kept holding herself back from calling –she didn’t want to seem clingy or bother him.

But the silence dragged on, and the longer it lasted, the more nervous she became.

She wanted to tell Curtis about her pregnancy but feared that something might go wrong at the checkup next week and leave him disappointed.

So… she decided to keep quiet for now.

“Margaret, make sure you call me once you’re back at the orphanage,” Adriana said while seeing her off at the airport.

“Don’t worry about me. You should go home now,” Margaret urged. “You’re expecting–you need to take it easy, especially early on.”

Adriana nodded and waited for Margaret to pass through security before turning to leave.

In the crowd, a guy was secretly watching Adriana. When she reached a busier area, he quickly ran toward her and bumped into her.

He intended to hit her hard enough to cause her to miscarry.

“Watch out!” Just as the guy lunged at her, Curtis pulled Adriana into his arms, holding her tightly.

The guy stumbled and hit the floor instead.

He shot a terrified look at Curtis. He tried to run, but Kenneth caught him and slammed him down. “Seriously? You attack someone on purpose and think you can just run for it?”

Adriana just stood there in shock, still trying to make sense of what happened. She looked up at Curtis and stammered, “Curtis? You… you’re back?”

Curtis hugged Adriana tighter, letting out a sigh of relief.

He looked a bit worn out, with red eyes and a bit of stubble on his chin. Clearly, he had been working hard these past few days.

“Mr. Lincoln has been out of his mind,” Kenneth said, chuckling as he motioned for security to take the guy away. “He crammed a whole week of work into three days. It nearly drove everyone crazy.”

Adriana looked at Curtis in surprise. “Why do you look so tired… ?”

“I haven’t slept in two nights, Babe…” Curtis said, hugging Adriana and sounding exhausted.

Adriana nervously hugged him back, gently patting his back. “Let’s go home.”

The second Curtis heard her say “home,” he paused like it caught him off guard… then a small smile appeared. “Okay … ”

On the ride back, Curtis finally hit his limit. He rested his head on Adriana’s shoulder, fingers laced with hers, and shut his eyes.

“Babe … do you have any good news to tell me?” Curtis was waiting for Adriana to tell him herself, but she didn’t seem ready to speak.

Adriana felt her ears turn red. Being called “babe” felt too intimate.

“Well,” she said softly, “the test says I’m pregnant, but it’s not one hundred percent confirmed yet. Curtis, will you come with me for the follow–up in a few days?”

Curtis grinned, sitting up straighter. “And what should you call me now?”

He was gently prompting her. Since he called her “babe,” couldn’t she at least call him “hubby“?
