Curtis had kept things vague, only mentioning that his mother and Nicole’s mother used to be very close.

Adriana nodded, half–understanding.

Since Curtis clearly didn’t want to share the real reason, she didn’t push it any further.

After all… keeping a marriage promise just because of his mother’s dying wish felt like a bit of a stretch.

Curtis cleared his schedule and stayed by Adriana’s side the entire time.

Meanwhile, Nicole was starting to panic. She was terrified Adriana would actually go in for a check–up and find out she was pregnant. So, she racked her brain for ways to get rid of the baby, but she never got the chance.

Curtis never left Adriana alone. Not even for a second.

“That’s weird. Belinda hasn’t responded to any of my messages the last few days,” Adriana said, staring at her WhatsApp, puzzled.

Aside from that one time she ditched her for shopping because Harold dragged her away, she hadn’t done anything to upset Belinda, had she?

“She’s childish. Gets upset over the smallest things. Don’t take it personally,” Curtis said as he brought over a plate of sliced fruit and sat down beside her.

“No, I have to call her.” Adriana was starting to feel uneasy. She tapped Belinda’s name and dialed.

But Belinda declined the call immediately.

“Maybe… you try?” Adriana looked at Curtis pleadingly.

Curtis nodded, pulled out his phone, and gave her a call, but Belinda declined that one too.

Now Adriana was really starting to panic. “Something’s not right … What if something’s happened to her? Should we go check on her at school?”

She’d heard Belinda might be dating someone.

Sure, dating in college wasn’t a big deal, but Belinda was still very naïve and easily fooled.

Curtis nodded and stood up to take her.

When they got to the school and asked one of Belinda’s professors, they were told she’d already taken two days off.

She hadn’t been on campus at all for two full days.

Adriana grew even more anxious. “Curtis, what do we do…? What if something happened to her?”

Curtis gently tried to calm her down. “Don’t worry. I’ll have someone find her right away.”

He told Adriana to wait in the car while he stepped outside to make some calls.

About half an hour later, Curtis returned, his expression grim as he got into the driver’s seat. “Belinda found out her mom isn’t dead, and she ran away from home out of anger. She’s at a hotel,” he said flatly.

Adriana’s eyes widened in shock. Belinda knows Cynthia’s alive? “You guys hiding the truth from her … yeah, that wasn’t great. Finding out like that must’ve been a huge shock,” she muttered.

Curtis nodded silently and started driving Adriana toward the hotel where Belinda was staying.

The whole way there, Adriana’s nerves were all over the place.

If Belinda knew Cynthia was still alive, it could only mean one thing–Cynthia must’ve gone to see her.

Which also meant Cynthia had recovered enough to walk, talk, and live normally again…

And if that was true… where was Curtis planning to put Cynthia now?

Right then, as if on cue, Adriana’s worst fear came true–Curtis’s phone rang. It was Cynthia. “Curtis, the rehab center says I’m ready for discharge,” she said calmly.

“Pick me up with Belinda, okay?” Just like that, Cynthia gave Curtis an order, as casually as if nothing had happened. So confident. So unbothered. Only someone who had betrayed love could act so entitled.

Adriana sat there, her head down, unsure where Curtis was going to take Cynthia.

Surely… they weren’t going to live together again, were they?

“Okay,” Curtis replied without hesitation.

Belinda still wasn’t answering her phone, and Adriana was starting to worry something might’ve happened.

Girls that age could make impulsive mistakes when they were upset.

“Belinda, open the door,” Curtis said, knocking firmly. There was no response.
