Nina stayed quiet the whole car ride. But the moment they reached the daycare entrance, her eyes filled with tears again.

She wrapped her arms tightly around Amelia’s neck and refused to let go.

“Mommy, Nina go home.”

Just as Nina was gearing up for a full meltdown, a loud, piercing wail suddenly rang out.

Nina turned her little face to look.

Not far away, by car, Jerry–the boy Nina had hit all day yesterday–clung tightly to the car door with his tiny hands and wailed, “No school! I don’t want school! Nina hit me! I no go!”

Jerry had been so scared by Nina that he dreaded coming to daycare now.
