Chapter 56 Threats
“Ms. Barton,” Eva greeted respectfully. “Mr. Lincoln and Ms. Reese aren’t at home right now.”
“I’m here to visit Adriana,” Danielle said with a polite smile.
Eva hesitated briefly before glancing at Adriana.
Adriana
gave a small nod, signaling Eva to let Danielle in.
She knew better than to provoke Danielle, and she certainly didn’t want to.
“Adriana, I heard you’re in architecture. What a coincidence, so am I,” Danielle said warmly.
Adriana nodded in response. “Yes, you’re my senior in the field.”
Finistred
Danielle sat gracefully on the couch, studying Adriana. “I came on behalf of Natasha. She asked me to speak with you.”
Adriana’s expression tensed. “I’m sorry…
”
“Don’t bother pretending, Adriana,” Danielle interrupted. “You know perfectly well that the Joneses is out of your league. And you shouldn’t forget the Bartons, either.”
She quickly understood that Danielle was here to intimidate her.
“You’re aware of the real reason you married Curtis. It’s a business arrangement, not a real marriage. It’s doomed to end. Curtis divorcing you is only a matter of time.”
Danielle was certain that Curtis would dump Adriana soon enough.
“How long does your contract marriage with Curtis last? Until Harold/dies?” Danielle asked casually.
She already had a pretty good idea of the answer.
Adriana took a steadying breath but didn’t respond.
“Let’s make a little wager. It won’t even last that long. Within two weeks, Harold will make Curtis divorce you. Want to bet on it?”
Danielle spoke confidently.
Her smugness made Adriana’s stomach tighten.
Two weeks?
Did they already have a plan in motion?
“Adriana, stop being so naive. You don’t belong in our world. It’s built on power, influence, and prestige- and you have none of that.” Danielle’s words cut deep.
But she wasn’t wrong.

Chapter 56 Threats
“Here’s my card. I can open doors in the architecture industry that even Curtis couldn’t. I’m the real connection you’d need.”
The offer was tempting. “Think about it, Adriana. Call me when you come to your senses.
“You want me to leave Curtis?” Adriana asked, uncertain of her motives.

“No need. I don’t have to trade favors for something that’s already inevitable,” Danielle replied smoothly.
Curtis and Adriana’s breakup was only a matter of time.
“Sign the leniency letter. Let Mia and Rufus go,” Danielle said as she rose, smiling slightly. “And save yourself while you can. If you want a real career in design, you’ll need my backing.”
Danielle’s intent was clear; she was threatening her.
Adriana once believed studying abroad would change her fate, but Danielle could ruin her career with a single word.
If she decided to blacklist her, the entire industry would close its doors.
Adriana’s fists tightened, her body tense. She couldn’t deny that Danielle’s words hit hard.
But she couldn’t just forgive Mia and Rufus.
Her phone buzzed. It was Joe calling.
“Officer Richardson,” Adriana answered, her tone slightly strained.
“Adriana, the man who tried to kill you confessed. He said he’s the one who abandoned you at the orphanage years ago.”
Adriana froze. “He … he left me there?”
“Yeah. He admitted it. Said he should’ve killed you then but didn’t. Now he believes if he doesn’t finish the job, he’ll die himself.” Joe’s voice carried deep concern.
It was clear something about Adriana’s past wasn’t normal.
“Did he mention anything else? About my parents?” Adriana asked shakily.
Had her parents really abandoned her?
“He refused to say more. Honestly, he doesn’t seem stable. We’ve ordered a psychological evaluation,” Joe explained. “Still, this is progress. It proves there’s something strange about your background. I’ll keep digging, but you need to be on guard.”
