NEVEAH
“It’s just another year, you can do this.” I whispered to myself as I walked past the large gates that led into Frostmoor High, the most prestigious academy for wolves of high status.
I tried to keep my head down and go unnoticed as I walked up the stairs leading into the building, struggling to blend it so badly so the students scattered around wouldn’t notice me.
I could only imagine the kind of horrible pranks my school mates had planned to make my life miserable because as long as I could remember, everyone in Frostmoor High picked on the weak omega girl the school had admitted as a charity outreach to other packs.
“Four eyed weakling”, “Ugly duckling”, “School’s charity case”, those were the names most people called me here in Frostmoor High and today was the first day of another school year.
“Oh My Goodness! Kael’s here!” I heard one of the girls shriek as a black sleek limo pulled up in front of the school building and the girls, giggling wildly, rushed to surround it.
My entire body tensed up as my grip on my bag tightened, on impulse, I rushed inside as fast as my legs could handle and didn’t stop running until I was in front of my locker.
I knew exactly who Kael was and he was someone I was determined to do everything to avoid.
“Get to class, keep your head down and run back as soon as school is over.” I rehearsed my plan out loud over and over again.
I took a deep breath and inserted my passcode but as soon as I pulled open the door, a loud explosive sound erupted from inside and I gasped in shock when I felt something splash against my face.
The stench from the rotten eggs that was now dripping down my face filled my nostrils and my stomach churned aggressively but I didn’t even get the chance to recover from it before I felt something slam against the back of my head.
I turned around just in time for another one to hit me directly on the face and the flour trapped inside the little balloon, spilled all over me.
“Crawl back to the hole you came out from.” Someone yelled as more balloons filled with flour rained down on me.
My throat stung so bad, my entire body was covered in flour and rotten eggs and I couldn’t even protect myself from the students that had rallied around me, throwing all kinds of things at me. All I could do was just stand there, wincing in pain as tears poured down my face.
“Did you really think we would forget about our pathetic little omega.” A cold voice dripping with mockery filled my ears and my entire body froze at the sound of that voice.
Sabrina Thornvale, the hottest gamma in the entire academy walked up to me, her entire clique of friends following closely behind her with smug looks on their faces and before I could say a word, she shoved me back so hard that I slammed my head against my locker.
The pain shot through me as I crumbled to the floor, a searing pain spreading from my skull to my spine.
“Nobody wants you here, four eyes.” She hissed as she bent down and snatched my glasses away from me.
“N-No… please Sabrina, I can’t see without those glasses.” I cried out loud, pathetically as I tried to take them back but the other girls held me down, chuckling like they were having the best time of their lives.
My vision was now blurry and I could no longer clearly see the faces of the people before me.
“I didn’t even think you would show your face here again, not after what happened the last time.” Sabrina said and my heart skipped a beat.
“Get ready, I’ll make this year even worse than the last for you and I won’t stop until you stop showing your ugly face here, your kind isn’t welcomed here.” She added and a slight tremor raced down my spine.
With that, she tossed my glasses on the floor and brought her heels down heavily on it. The sound of the glasses breaking filled my ears and my heart dipped towards my stomach as tears sprang to my eyes.
No! That was my last pair and those glasses cost a fortune.
I had to work three part time jobs to be able to pay for those.
I crumbled to my knees as Sabrina walked away with her friends, their laughter echoing down the hall. My entire body trembled lightly as the sobs racked through me but at that moment, the bell rang and I knew I had to get to class.
But my eyes would practically be useless without those glasses.
With my arms outstretched, I tried to find my way to class but one of the students standing next to me suddenly pulled open his locker and I bumped right into it. Laughter rang out through the hall as everyone seemed to be amused by my predicament.
Hot tears stung the corners of my eyes and I was tempted to just collapse right there on the floor and burst into tears but I knew that was only going to make it worse.
A familiar scent hit me as the doors burst open and three boys walked in.
I didn’t need eyes to know who had just walked in, Kael Smith, the school’s golden boy, impeccable grades, Alpha’s heir, the school’s hockey captain and my biggest bully.
A shiver raced down my spine as goosebumps popped out all over me. With each step, he drew closer and all I could do was pray for the moon goddess to just let the ground open up and swallow me because Kael was worse than the entire school combined.
“What’s wrong? You don’t like my welcome back gift?” His harsh voice filled my ears as he came to a halt in front of me. His presence seemed to suck the very air around me because I could no longer breathe.
I dared not look him in the face, omegas could never stand the aura around Alphas.
But as I glanced down at my toes that now looked blurry, that was when my brain registered what he had just said,
He planned this? I should have known. No one takes so much delight in my misery except for Kael.
“Don’t worry, I have something even more special planned for lunch.” He whispered and my heart beat intensified but before he could do anything, the bell rang again and everyone in the hallway began to scurry off to class.
She didn’t respond, she simply drove off and the ride was silent until she diverted from the main road onto a private one and the pack house, the largest mansion in the entire pack, came into view.
My breath caught in my throat, what were we doing here?
Only the Alpha and people of status could come here.
“Mom wha-“
“Shut up and listen to me Nevaeh,” she snapped, cutting me off as she got down from the car, pulling me along with her, “I could have left you to rot back home but I didn’t so you’re going to do everything I tell you to. From today onwards, we have a new family and if you dare to even think about ruining this for me, you’ll be back on the streets before that happens.”
My brows furrowed in confusion, what was she saying? We had no relatives, no one other than ourselves.
“What do you mean by…”
“I am getting married.” She announced and those words knocked the air right out of my lungs. Before I could react, the large doors opened and a tall, intimidating man stepped out with his arms outstretched and to my horror, Mom walked right into his embrace and kissed him passionately.
“So good to finally meet you Nevaeh,” He said with a warm smile but the aura he exuded made me tremble and I took a step back, my eyes dropping to the floor.
Was he the…
The sound of a car pulling up behind me forced me to glance back and a familiar limo came to halt right beside me. The door opened and Kael stepped down.
My heart skipped a beat, what the hell was he doing here? Was this really the…
“Finally on time Kael.”
“Hey, Dad.” Kael waved at him.
“Nevaeh, I want you to meet my son, Kael.” The man holding onto mom said and the whole world began to spin in front of me.
What the hell was going on? How did mom end up with the Alpha? Not just any Alpha, but my bully’s dad?!
