NEVAEH
I froze when Kael ordered me out of his car. What did I even expect? That he’d risk his spotless reputation for the same lowly omega he used to bully in school?
A sharp pang cut through my chest, and I hated that disappointment was even part of it.
He hates me. He couldn’t stand the sight of me and that was no news. But when he agreed to take me to school, a part of me felt relieved. I had hoped maybe staying under his roof would be a little different, but who was I kidding?
His car roared to life as he sped off without sparing me a second glance and a sigh escaped my parted lips.
I could see the school building from where I stood but it’d take at least fifteen minutes to get there. I knew this because I walked to school every day.
Shit.
My heart slammed against my rib when I checked the time. Class would start in five minutes. Even if I were to run, I wouldn’t make it on time.
I couldn’t afford to piss off my teacher, so I ran anyway.
I was drenched in sweat by the time I got to school. I hurried into my class, hoping it would be one of those days the teacher got caught up with something and arrived late, but who was I kidding?
My gaze met with a stoic one the moment I pushed the door open.
“Class started ten minutes ago. Why are you just coming?” A frown creased his brows as he spoke.
“I… erm…”
I hesitated for a moment, knowing no one cares about my sob story or why I was in the car with a certain person to begin with, let alone why he sent me out in the middle of the road.
“I’m sorry, sir,” I apologized quickly.
He didn’t look a bit impressed, but thankfully, he didn’t dwell on it either.
“Go to your seat and don’t disrupt my class.” He turned back to the board, ignoring me now and I went to my seat before he’d change his mind.
I went to my seat only to find the infamous Kael Drakenwood, sitting there with a smirk on his face.
Bile rose to my throat. I wanted to wrap my hands around his neck but instead, I forced myself to take the empty seat in front of him and a satisfied smirk tugged at his lips.
Fucking asshole.
The class went on, but I could barely keep up with what the teacher was saying. Kael’s gaze burned my neck. I could feel his stare without looking and it made my skin crawl.
I raised my hands to gain the teacher’s attention, when I felt a sudden pull in my hair.
My loose bun unraveled, making hair spill down my back. I didn’t need to look back to know who it was.
Kael fucking Drakenwood.
My fist clenched as I turned to face him. “What was that for?” I tried to sound steady, but my voice cracked at the end.
He feigned an innocent look when the teacher turned back and caught me speaking to him.
“Whitlock, do you have something to say to the class?” He raised his brows and I shook my head quickly.
“N-no, sir.”
“You came to school late. I was lenient enough to ask you to sit without any punishment and you’re just going to disturb my class? If you’re not interested in what we’re doing here, why didn’t you just stay back at home?”
His eyes shone with annoyance. I parted my lips to speak but the disdainful look on his face was enough to shut me up.
“I’m sorry, sir,” I mumbled under my breath.
“You know the rules, Whitlock. Detention. 2 hours after school.” He added. “Any more troubles and you won’t be getting just detention this time,” he threatened.
“P-p-please sir, I promise I won’t…”
“Another word and not only will I make the hours longer, you’d be banned from entering my class till the end of this session.”
I knew he wasn’t bluffing. My finger dug into my palm so hard that I could feel the pain radiating through my being, but I simply nodded.
My blood ran cold, and my legs came to a halt abruptly. They were rogues. Their smell says it all and the smug smirk on their faces told me to run.
I backed away instinctively and ran as fast as my legs could carry me.
“Stop there!”
“You’re not getting away from us!” They yelled from behind.
“Help!!!” I screamed at the top of my lungs even though I knew it was an empty alley. “Somebody help!”
“No one is coming to save you,” one of them laughed from behind.
They were too fast. There was no way I’d get away. A stream of tears trickled down my cheeks when I hit my leg on a stone and a scream tore my throat.
I feel hard on my butt. My body shook violently, and my heart burned knowing no one was coming to save me.
“You should have just stayed still,” one of the men hissed. “We’d have gone easy on you.”
Blood trickled down my feet and I think I had twisted my legs.
It is over.
They lurched forward, a sick smile playing on their lips and my stomach churned in disgust.
“No need for pretense. I know you want this.”
I snapped my eyes closed. My breath hitched as my hands curled into a fist. For once, I wished my wolf would come out and protect me, when a cold voice spoke from behind.
“Touch even a strand of her hair, and I’d make you pay for it.”
