I could hear whispers in my sleep. I opened my eyes slowly to see if I was imagining it, only to find everyone staring at me. My father had brought the elders into my room, and I couldn’t help but sigh.

I sat up, looking between father and the elders, wondering what was they wanted this time, when father sank his weight next to me. His eyes flickered with worry even though I was obviously fine.

“How are you feeling?” He asked. He looked a little more relaxed than he was when I first came in with Nevaeh, but I could sense his worry.

“I’m fine,” I assured him.

I looked between him and the elders once again, but before Father could speak again, the elders beat him to it. “It’s a good thing you’re awake and fine. We were so worried something might have happened to you.”

Father’s jaw clenched at their words, but he remained seated calmly next to me.

“Can you tell us exactly what happened?” One of the elders asked, and the rest nodded their heads.

“The healer said you were completely fine, and there were no traces of wounds on your body either. That was already shocking, considering the amount of blood we saw in your room but we can sense your wolf presence too.”

They didn’t even allow me to speak as they kept on taking turns. Yes, how were you able to shift fully without the initiation ceremony?” Another one asked, and father looked like he was just as curious even though he hadn’t said a word.

“Did you see their face or anything that can give us hints on where to trace them?” Father finally asked, and I shook my head.

The council gave me an apologetic look and I wondered how long I could use that line for before my father forced the ceremony on me once again.

Just when I thought the whole interrogation had ended, Father spoke again. “I’m still curious to know how any of this was possible,” he started and I drew out a sigh.

“No Alpha has ever been able to fully shift without the aid of the elders. The shift is too powerful and could cost you your life without proper assistance,” he shook his head as if he didn’t want to imagine that happening.

“Did you experience any kind of change or feel something before they were able to shift? Because I just couldn’t understand how you were able to do it so easily without any help.”

I didn’t say it out loud, and I could tell the elders were just as puzzled about the whole shifting thing as my father, but I knew Nevaeh was the only reason why I could shift without their help.
