My body went still the moment I saw the dagger that was pressed against Nevaeh’s throat. Nevaeh snapped her eyes closed as tears trickled down her cheeks. Her body was already drenched in blood and the idea of Sabrina slitting her throat made my breath caught.

I released Travis in an instant, ignoring the way he was snarling at me because we both know this wasn’t a fight he could win, but it’s not worth risking Nevaeh’s life over.

“Take the dagger away from her,” I hissed, trying to keep my voice controlled, but I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t been trying to stop my hands from trembling.

Dried tears streaked her cheeks, and when she flickered her eyes open, something stirred inside me. She looked broken. And I couldn’t help but feel guilty, knowing this might have all started because of me.

“Why should I listen to you? You were going to kill your best friend because of this whore. Tell me why I should slit her throat and watch her bleed to death.”

She drew her brows together, glaring at me as her hands tightened against the dagger. Nevaeh’s eyes locked with mine and even though she hadn’t said anything other than panting, her eyes pleaded with me to save her. My stomach churned at the sight of her helplessness, but I also knew Sabrina could really stab her so I walked gently towards them, taking one step at a time without breaking my gaze from Sabrina.

“Trust me, you don’t want to do anything to harm her,” I said, moving forward to unarmed her without giving her a hint of what I was about to do.

“Does this look like a joke to you?” She pressed the dagger against her temple, cutting her slightly, but the effect of the silver was enough to kill her.

Neveah screamed in pain. Her body shook violently against Sabrina’s hold, as her entire body flushed red. My heart raced at the thought of something happening to her, and all the idea of my wolf to pounce on her and take control vanished into thin air.

For the first time in my life, I didn’t know what to do. Triggering Sabrina would only make her hurt Nevaeh more, and watching her squirm in pain made my jaw clench.

They’ll pay for this. Every single one of them, but first, I need to get her out of here.

“You can’t go around threatening people’s lives, Sabrina.”

I didn’t know how I managed to sound so calm when I was on the verge of losing my shit, but she only snorted at my words.

“What is so special about her anyway?” She snapped, but I didn’t miss the way her voice trembled at the end.” What the hell is she doing differently that makes you think she’s worth disregarding your betrothed for?”

Her eyes lit with rage as she spoke, and I could tell just how furious she was. Sabrina would do anything to please me on a normal day, but seeing how she was only glaring at me, I knew words wouldn’t be enough to reason with her. She looked determined to get rid of Nevaeh.

My hands curled into a ball at the thought. I straightened, trying to keep my breath controlled as I stared back at Sabrina.

“Everyone is watching,” I hissed. “Drop the dagger.”

“If you care about our reputation that much, then you’ll kick her out of the pack house this instant,” she demanded. “I won’t allow you to live under the same roof with a pig like her, when everyone knows what kind of slut she is.”

I knew Travis was the one who painted Nevaeh a slut in everyone’s mind, and the thought was enough to make me want to break his bones, but I held myself back.

I kept quiet, just staring at her and it seemed to piss her off even more. She scoffed at my reaction, gritting her Successfully unlocked!

teeth before she began to yell.

“What the hell is wrong with you? Her mother is the only one entitled to be in the pack house since she’s married to the Alpha. A nobody daughter like her has no business staying in the pack house, so why are you hesitating to do the needful?”

Maybe if she had said that a couple of months ago, maybe I’d have agreed with her, but Nevaeh is here to stay and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop it.

My silence seemed to drive her to the edge. She broke down in front of everyone, and burst into tears, not minding if she was being recorded or not.

The entire school was watching. She could have taken the conversation somewhere else, but since she decided to do this here, so be it.

She sniffed back her tears, voice trembling as she spoke again. “Is she the reason you’ve been keeping me at arm’s length since the mating ceremony? You can’t possibly choose her over me-”

Her grip tightened against the dagger until her knuckles turned white. She blinked back the tears that blurred her vision but the only person I cared about was the girl whimpering on the cold floor.

“I’m not doing this with you here,” I said sharply. “Release her and we’ll have a proper conversation privately.” “What’s there to talk about in private now? The whole school knows now! Travis had told me everything so you have nothing to hide anymore. He told me all about how she shamelessly slithered her way into your bed and I’d be damned if I let her get away with sleeping with my man.”

Her words sounded like a vow and I knew there was no point in reasoning with her.

“If you’re not going to say a word, we might as well put an end to it all right now.”

She pressed the dagger against her throat, and Nevaeh’s scream filled the air. My body went still for a moment before rushing forward to rescue her but her next action stopped me.

“Take another step, and you’d better be prepared to carry her corpse out of here.”

I went still on the spot. Her eyes were fixed on mine, daring me to make a move when I noticed what Neveah was doing. She bit Sabrina’s hands, making her scream from the sharp pain.

The dagger dropped with a thud, and I kicked it away in an instant and disarmed her.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing? People are watching!” Sabrina let out a frustrated scream, but I was only relieved that Nevaeh was fine.

“You fucking bitch! What did you do to gain his attention?” She charged towards Nevaeh once again, but I stepped in front of her, stopping Sabrina before she could do anything stupid once again.

She scoffed in disbelief as her body shook violently. “You can hide behind him for as long as you want, but you’re nothing but I assure you, you’re nothing but another free pussy,” she spat.

Everyone remained quiet as camera light flashed from different angles. Sabrina’s face flushed as she continued to scream.

“Have you forgotten so fast about how he started the whole bullying? Are you that desperate that you’d even fuck your bully?” She shook her head in disbelief as her body vibrated with rage,

“If you think you’re any special because of the little attention he’s paying you, then you’re wrong. I’ll be here to deal with you when he finally gets bored and you. Rest assured, bitch, it won’t be long.”

I clenched my fist as she spilled out those words, but didn’t bother arguing with her. I started the whole bullying and I’ll put an end to it.

Without a word, I took off my jacket and wrapped it around Nevaeh’s body. Sabrina cursed behind me, but I didn’t spare her a glance. I helped Nevaeh up, and she almost tripped from how weak her legs had become. Resting her weight on mine, I led her out of the class to my car while the whole school watched in awe. I was sure they were recording the whole thing, and I’ll have to deal with her later, but for now, I need to treat Nevaeh’ s wound.

She grunted in pain as I helped her settle in my car before driving us home. She stared out through the window the entire time without uttering a word, while my hands tightened against the wheel.
