Chapter 10 When Rivals Meet
Ethan’s eyes went wide. “Julian, Ivy?”
The three kids took one look at each other’s gear and instantly understood what the others were planning.
“You’re going to save Mommy too?” they said in unison.
Julian smacked his forehead. “We really are Mommy’s kids.”
Ivy said seriously, “Mommy was taken by bad Daddy. I can’t just sit and do nothing.”
Ethan nodded hard. “Exactly, exactly.”
Julian sighed. I planned to go alone. I didn’t expect this… Fine, then we’ll all go together.
“Both of you stay close to me.”
Ivy nodded rapidly, like a pecking bird. “Mm-hmm. I’m the best kid in the world. I’ll do whatever you say.”
Katherine was forcibly taken by Lucas back to the hotel’s presidential suite.
Hearing the door open, Rachel walked out happily. “Lucas, you’re back-”
Then she saw the woman standing beside him, and her voice cut off.
“Katherine?”
The Katherine who had disappeared five years ago.
Rachel couldn’t believe it.
Katherine lifted her eyes and saw Rachel. Her expression instantly cooled.
Back then, when Melissa died, Rachel had worn a red dress to the funeral. She even deliberately told her that the reason Lucas hadn’t come was that he was busy taking care of her while she cared for her own mother.
Katherine had known Rachel did it on purpose, just to provoke her.
But at that time, crushed by her mother’s death and the collapse of her marriage. Katherine couldn’t control her emotions. Even knowing Rachel’s intent, she still followed the path
Rachel wanted, divorcing and leaving.
Rachel must’ve been over the moon back then.
A chill rose in Katherine’s chest.
“Lucas, why is Katherine here?” Rachel demandel. “Is that why you rushed out just now?”
Hearing Rachel’s questioning, Katherine turned her head toward Lucas, then suddenly changed her expression. She hooked her arm through his and smiled, brows lifting. “Oh, didn’t expect to see you here, Ms. Hart. My bad. If I’d known you were here, I wouldn’t have come with Lucas.”
Lucas raised an eyebrow. Watching Katherine’s sudden change, he realized she was doing it on purpose.
He should have pushed her away. But strangely, he didn’t. Instead, he stood there and played along, watching her smile like a little fox.
Rachel’s face turned red.
So Lucas rushed out because he found Katherine?
And he even brought her back to the hotel?
She tried hard to stay calm, but seeing Katherine leaning against Lucas, the doubt in her heart exploded. She stepped forward and shoved Katherine.
Katherine let go of Lucas and shifted aside.
Rachel pushed air and nearly stumbled.
Rachel spun back angrily to glare at Katherine.
Katherine raised her brows and put on a wicked smile.
Is she mad?
Good-be mad.
Back then, she did this on purpose to piss me off too.
An eye for an eye.
I did it on purpose.
Rachel’s eyes reddened as she looked pitifully at Lucas. “Lucas, look at her!”
Lucas had watched Katherine’s whole performance.
Seeing the little satisfied look on her face after getting her way, he didn’t find it annoying. Instead, he liked this version of Katherine far more than the cold, distant one.
“Lucas!”
Seeing him still looking at Katherine, Rachel was about to lose it.
Lucas came back to himself and looked at her. “I just found her. Grandpa wants to see her. She’ll be coming back to Crestburg with us.”
What?
Lucas didn’t just find Katherine, but he’s taking her back too?
Lucas turned to Katherine. “You’re staying here tonight.”
“Am I sleeping with you, then?” Katherine asked deliberately.
She knew he’d refuse. She just wanted to irritate Rachel.
Lucas glanced at her. “Sure.”
Katherine froze.
What?
She stood there in shock.
He agreed?
Seeing her not move, Lucas mocked softly. “You scared?”
