My Billionaire Ex Wants Me Back (Katherine) novel Chapter 9

Chapter 9 She Never Aborted the Children

Katherine’s face went pale.

It’s over.

“Katherine, are you coming back?”

It was Megan’s voice.

“Mommy…”

Katherine snatched the phone and hung up.

Lucas frowned.

He heard it.

Someone on the call had called out, “Mommy.”

His gaze locked onto Katherine. His deep eyes narrowed dangerously. Watching how tense she was, suspicion flared instantly.

“Mommy? They were calling you?”

Katherine gripped her phone, forcing herself to steady the shaking in her body. “That was my friend’s kid, calling my friend ‘Mommy.””

“Your friend’s kid?” Lucas bit out the words coldly. “Then why are you so nervous?”

“Who said I was nervous?”

“Heh.”

Lucas let out a cold laugh. Even though Katherine controlled her breathing and expression well, her eyes and movements still betrayed her

“You’re lying, Katherine. Do you know you always let your eyes wander when you lie?”

“Lucas, are you interrogating me?”

“Yes, I am interrogating you,” he said bluntly. “I’m curious. Back then, you were seven months pregnant when you went to the hospital for an abortion. Which doctor agreed to do it? Or did you never abort the babies at all, instead give birth in Yarbrough and raise the kids there? That boy who just called Mommy, was he the child from back then?”

Every question Lucas asked made Katherine’s heart pound violently.

Because he was right.

Katherine clenched her teeth and looked straight into his eyes. “No. I aborted the children back then. What are you doubting? Do you really think I would keep your children?”

Lucas had always suspected that Katherine never truly aborted the children.

After all, the babies were already seven months along. In just over a month, she would’ve given birth.

She wouldn’t really have the heart to end it.

Besides, at that stage, most hospitals wouldn’t even agree to an induced abortion.

He’d always had doubts, but his investigation showed Katherine had lived alone all these years, which eased them somewhat. Then that call reignited everything.

Ethan.

Mommy.

The more Lucas thought about it, the more convinced he became that she never aborted at all.

“If you won’t admit it, then call that number back and prove it to me.”

Katherine’s fingers tightened.

“You won’t? That means I guessed right, doesn’t it?”

Katherine pressed her lips together. Lucas stared at her, his eyes filled with suspicion.

She knew very well that if she didn’t make the call, it would be the same as admitting he was right.

Katherine clenched her phone.

She had no choice but to gamble.

“Fine. You’re suspicious? I’ll call.”

She unlocked her phone and dialed.

Lucas watched her closely, trying to read something from her expression.

Chapter 9 She Never Aborted the Children

The call connected quickly. In the quiet car, a woman’s voice came through.

“Hello? Katherine, why aren’t you here yet? Ethan’s been waiting forever.”

Katherine’s heart clenched sharply.

“Katherine, hurry up. Mommy and I are both waiting for you.”

“But Mommy was taken by bad Daddy. She’s in danger,” Ivy said anxiously.

“Trust me. Your mommy isn’t in danger right now. Lucas won’t hurt her. As long as discover you, she’ll be fine.”

“But I’m worried about Mommy.” Ivy’s eyes reddened, tears about to fall.

Megan hurried to comfort her. “Don’t cry, Ivy. Your mommy told you not to worry just now right? That means she has a way. Stay here with your brothers and be good, okay?”

“But Mommy…”

Julian walked over and hugged Ivy. “Be good, Ivy We have to listen to Mommy and stay here with Megan. Otherwise, Mommy will worry. Do you want Mommy to worry?”

“I don’t.”

“Then be good.”

Ivy looked at them with red eyes, wiped her tears hard. “Okay. I’ll be good.”

Julian looked at Ethan. “Ethan?”

Ethan sighed and put his bag down. “I’ll be good too.”

With Ethan and Ivy calmed, Megan now carried the responsibility of looking after all three of them. She couldn’t betray Katherine’s trust, so she could only guide them back to their rooms to sleep.

The three little ones didn’t cause trouble. They bediently climbed into their small beds.

Megan kept a tight knot in her chest as she gently closed their door, then took out her phone and called Katherine, hoping to ask what was going on.

But Katherine’s phone was already unreachable.

Megan was anxious but powerless. She knew better than anyone that Katherine’s greatest fear was the children being discovered, so the most important thing now was to protect them.

Megan turned off the living room lights and went back to her room.

Half an hour later.

In the darkness.

Everything was quiet.

A small figure quietly slipped out of a room, feeling through the dark, silently opening the front door.

The tiny figure slid smoothly through the crack

The door closed softly behind them. No one noticed. The little one sighed in relief and turned on a flashlight.

Two figures ahead suddenly turned around..
