Under the bed, the three kids were curled into a tight ball, hands clamped over their mouths, terrified of making a sound.

Lucas watched Katherine for a moment. He knew her behavior was strange, but he couldn’t tell what she was up to.

He scanned the room. Nothing seemed out of place.

Lucas looked away, his voice cold. “I will bring you back. Don’t try any tricks.”
