Megan stood beside her, helpless, not knowing what to say to make any of it better. None of them had ever imagined things would turn out ke this.

Lucas had no clue Ivy was safe yet. He arrived a Katherine’s room and found it empty.

Lucas’ brow tensed. He stormed out and grabbed a nurse. “Where did the patient go?”

The nurse glanced inside, confused. “She’s awake? An hour ago she was still out when I checked.”

Lucas rushed off.

Katherine had just had surgery. Where could she possibly go?

Was she escaping again?

She really didn’t care about her own safety.

Ivy was still missing, and now Katherine had vanished too. Lucas felt his head pounding.

“Sir, we found her! We found her!”

“You found Ivy?” Lucas’s eyes grew sharp.

“Yes, she’s already back in her room.”

Lucas started toward Ivy’s room in long strides. Who found her? Where was she?”

“Ms. Field and Mrs. Grant. She was in… the morgue.”

“Yes, the morgue in the hospital,”

He couldn’t even begin to imagine how a child ended up there.

She blamed Lucas, but she blamed herself too if Lucas had not interfered, Ivy would not have suffered so much.

If she had been stronger, Ivy would not have gotten hurt.

Katherine fought to keep herself together and bold back tears. Finally, the doctor came out and said they could see Ivy.

Ivy was still weak, and the cold had knocked her out.

Katherine steadied herself and went in with Megan.

Lucas tried to follow, but Megan blocked the doorway with her arms. “Mr. Grant, you’re not

welcome.”

Lucas stood outside, not moving.

His eyes looked dark and full of regret.
