Rachel shook her head in panic, tears filling her eyes. “That’s not what happened. I just thought the kettle was too close to the edge. With kids around, it wasn’t safe, so I moved it inward. I really didn’t expect this to happen.”
Katherine’s eyes turned icy. “The footage is crystal clear, and you’re still arguing? Do you really think that kind of coincidence exists?”
“I-I really didn’t…”
Rachel kept shaking her head, looking like she’d been framed, utterly wronged.
“It was an accident. What’s there to argue about? Sarah walked over and sat beside Rachel, looking straight at Katherine.
“Katherine, haven’t you ever been careless? Rachel makes one mistake, and you blow it out of proportion. We all know her character. She’d never have such vicious intentions.”
Seeing someone take her side, Rachel looked at Sarah with gratitude, tears falling even harder.
She pressed her lips together, stood up, and said “Ivy, Katherine, I did knock over the kettle. That part is my fault. But it really was an accident. Either way, I’m sorry.”
As she spoke, Rachel bent deeply toward Katherine and Ivy.
Seeing this, Sarah felt heartache and immediately pulled her back. “That’s enough. It wasn’t your fault to begin with. It was just an accident, and they’re fine, aren’t they? Don’t blame yourself.”
Katherine was stunned.
Is she blind?
She looked at Lucas.
Lucas frowned slightly, almost imperceptibly.
The video was clear enough to prove Rachel did it on purpose. Katherine asked coldly, “What do you say?”
Rachel looked at Lucas nervously.
After a long silence, Lucas set the tablet down. “This matter is done.”

Katherine froze. “Lucas! Can’t you see she did it on purpose? If she had-”
“It was an accident.”
Lucas’s words made Katherine’s heart sink, a sharp wave of irony crashing over her.
She stared at him and let out a cold, humorless laugh.
So it’s not blindness-it’s bias.
Of course. We’re at the Grants. This is Lucas, the man who loves Rachel.
They always take her side. They’d twist anything for her.
“Mr. Lucas, Mr. Elijah is asking to see you,” George said, breaking the heavy silence.
“Got it.”
Lucas turned and left.
In Elijah’s study.
Elijah asked seriously, “I heard Ivy called Katherine ‘Mommy”?”

Lucas sat across from him, his thoughts heavy. “The girl was frightened and instinctively called for her mother. She wasn’t calling Katherine.”
“That’s what you think?” Elijah raised a brow.
Lucas nodded.
Based on Ivy’s reaction back then, there was no solid proof that she was actually calling Katherine “Mommy.”
Elijah frowned quietly.
The sharp-minded old man was clearly suspicious.
Just then, Fred knocked on the door. “Mr. Elijah
“Come in.”
Fred said, “Mr. Elijah, we checked. Mrs. Grant doesn’t have any children.”
Lucas had instructed Fred to investigate everyone around Katherine when he couldn’t find anything on her directly. The result was still the same.

Lucas’s gaze darkened. Have I really been overthinking it?
“You suspect Katherine?” Elijah hit the point directly.
Lucas briefly told him what had happened in Yarbrough.

A glint flashed in Elijah’s aged eyes. “When there are too many coincidences, they stop being coincidences. If you can’t find proof, why not use the most direct method?”
Lucas looked up. “You mean a paternity test?”
Rachel, who had just finished crying and come upstairs to look for Lucas, heard this at the door.
Her heart jolted. A paternity test? What paternity test?
“Yes.” Elijah nodded.
One test would make everything clear.
Lucas didn’t answer right away. He frowned, thought for a moment, then said quietly, “Alright.”
He stood up and walked out.
Rachel hurriedly hid herself. After Lucas left, she slowly stepped out from the adjacent room.
A paternity test?
What’s going on?
Downstairs.
The maid, Louisa, was applying burn ointment to Ivy. Ivy chatted and laughed with her. It was obvious Louisa adored the little girl.
