Lucas walked over. Ivy looked up at him. “Mr. Grant, was I wrong to call her ‘old lady’?”

Lucas curled his lips into a smile. “No, you weren’t.”

“Lucas!” Sarah’s face completely fell apart. “I’m your mother, and you’re taking an outsider’s side?”

“You won’t let her call you Grandma, then what do you want her to call you?” Lucas asked calmly.

Sarah was so angry that she didn’t know what to say.

Ivy smiled, pure and innocent.

“Old lady, don’t be mad. If I made you angry, I’ll apologize.”

Sarah was about to explode.

Katherine raised a hand to her forehead, wanting to laugh, but she held it in.

“Katherine, are you hiding some kind of secret from us?”

Rachel had thought it over and still felt that Elijan’s mention of a paternity test had something to do with Katherine.

“If you don’t say which one, how am I supposed to know which secret you mean?” Katherine raised a brow.

“You’re doing this on purpose.” Rachel was furious. She viciously grabbed a nearby cup and was about to splash Katherine with it.

Katherine’s eyes turned sharp as she caught Rachel’s wrist. “Was pouring water on Ivy not enough? You want to use that trick again?”

“Let go!” Rachel lowered her voice, aware of people outside.

Katherine flicked a glance toward the doorway. glint of mischief flashed in her clear eyes. Suddenly, she reached out and picked up the kettle nearby. “You want water? Fine, I’ll treat you to a whole kettle.”

She tipped the spout straight at Rachel’s mouth and poured.

The water had been sitting for a bit, probably still around 150 degrees. Even so, it was scalding when it hit her lips, and Katherine poured it right in.

“Ah!”

Rachel opened her mouth to scream, only for more hot water to rush in.

Panicking, she tried to stop it and smashed the up in her hand.

The cup shattered.

The loud noise instantly drew people in from outside.

“What happened?” Sarah was the first to rush in

By then, Katherine had already set the kettle down, standing there looking innocent.

Rachel, completely losing it, raised her hand and swung at Katherine. “You bitch!”

Her slap was immediately caught by a large hand. Katherine shrank back in fear, retreating straight into a broad, solid, safe chest.

When she looked up, she saw Lucas’s tense, handsome face. Katherine curled her lips wickedly. “Lucas, I don’t know why Ms. Hart wants to hit me. I’m so scared…”

Lucas frowned and glanced down at Katherine, hiding in his arms.

Seeing Katherine strike first with a false accusation, Rachel was shaking with rage, tears filling her eyes as she glared at Katherine. “You’re lying It was her, Lucas. She poured hot water into my mouth!”

Lucas lowered his gaze to the woman in his arms, who looked like a frightened little animal.

Katherine shook her head fearfully, her beautiful eyes filling with tears that hovered but didn’t fall, making her look even more pitiful.

“I didn’t, Lucas. I didn’t. Ms. Hart, why are you framing me? Is it because of what happened earlier today? If that’s the case, I can apologize. Please don’t accuse me like this.”

Rachel was stunned. Everything she was about to say had been said by Katherine.

Those were supposed to be her lines.

Seeing the situation slipping away, Rachel grew more frantic. “Katherine, you’re lying. Lucas, don’t believe her. She really poured hot water into my mouth…”

As Rachel’s aggression surged, Katherine shrank even closer into Lucas’s arms, lifting her eyes pitifully to him. “Lucas, I’m scared…”

Lucas’s dark eyes fixed on her, his long brows lifting slightly.

“Lucas…” Rachel stepped forward.

Lucas looked down at Katherine and wrapped an arm around her slender waist. “Don’t be scared.”

Rachel’s eyes flew wide open.

Katherine glanced at Rachel and curved her lips into a faint smile, seductive and cutting at the same time.
