Ivy spoke so quietly that Lucas couldn’t catch the words clearly. He only saw the light and heard soft rustling.
“Ivy, why are you still awake?”
Lucas’s voice broke the silence.
Ivy immediately went silent. The light went out, and the little bump got smaller.
He turned on the night light and watched quietly for a moment. “Are you asleep?”
A clear little voice came from under the blanket. I’m asleep.”
Lucas’s mouth lifted slightly, then flattened again.
“If you’re asleep, then don’t talk.”
“Okay.”
After a while, Ivy heard the door click as it closed.
She wiggled under the blanket, then slowly lowered it and peeked out. Her eyes met Lucas’s directly.
Ivy stiffened, blinking at him with an awkward smile.
Lucas looked at his watch and raised an eyebrow “It’s midnight. Weren’t you sleepy at eight?”
Ivy pouted and held her face. “Mommy hugs me when I sleep.”
“So?”
“If Mommy doesn’t hug me, Lcan’t sleep.”
“I’ll get you a nanny.”
“When you can’t sleep, does a nanny hug you?”
Lucas’s lips twitched.
What kind of question was that?
“Then what do you want?”

“Mr. Grant, can you sing for me?”
Her big eyes blinked expectantly at him.
Lucas originally wanted to refuse.
He didn’t know how to sing at all.
But seeing her hopeful look, he couldn’t bring himself to say no.
“What song?”
“Baa, Baa, Black Sheep.”
“Don’t know it.”
“Row, Row, Row Your Boat.”
“Don’t know it.”
“Then… Old MacDonald Had a Farm?”
“Don’t know it.”

Ivy’s jaw dropped in shock. She couldn’t believe someone didn’t even know Old MacDonald Had a Farm.
“Old Macdonald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O. You dont even know that? Did you skip kindergarten?”
Lucas had never heard of those songs.
Ivy flopped back down, mumbling, “You don’t know anything. No wonder Mommy doesn’t want you.”
Lucas saw that she was upset and was about to leave, losing his patience. But at the door, he paused.
It was already midnight. A little kid her age should be asleep.
Worried she might stay up all night, he gave in. He took out his phone, searched for the songs she mentioned, then brought over a chair and sat down.
“I’ll sing, but you tell me your mom’s name. Deal?”
He sounded like he was making a business deal.

Ivy’s eyes sparkled. “Really? If I tell you, you’ll sing?”
Yes.
“Okay!

She agreed quickly, lay down properly, and closed her eyes. “Then sing. I’ll tell you tomorrow when I wake up
Lucas watched her agree so fast, unsure what she was planning.
Staring at the childish lyrics on his phone, he frowned tightly.
After a long moment of preparation, he awkwardly began to sing.
“Row, row, row your boat. Gently down the stream…”
His voice was deep and magnetic. Even though he was off-key, the childish nursery rhyme somehow sounded nice coming from him.
Ivy was already sleepy. Soon, she drifted off.
Lucas looked at the sleeping girl, turned off his phone, tucked her in, and adjusted the air conditioner.
Seeing her reminded him of the children from back then.
He had once hoped for a daughter.
A daughter would be sweet and caring, like a warm coat around his heart.
If she looked like Katherine, that would be even better. The three of them could go out together like a real family. That would’ve been nice.
He hoped he wasn’t imagining things. He hoped Ivy was truly his daughter.
