Rachel stomped her foot in fury. She turned to Lucas, her eyes brimming with tears. “Lucas, what she said isn’t true; right? She seduced you, didn’t she?”

Lucas lit a cigarette irritably. “I forced the kiss.”

What?

Rachel watched as the two of them walked away in opposite directions. Tears instantly spilled down her face.

Today was her birthday. Why were they treating her like this?

Was this fair to her?

Damn, Katherine. She had stolen all the attention and even taken Lucas away from her.

When Katherine returned home, she looked at the three little ones hiding in the corner, too scared to come over and speak to her.

Her expression turned serious. “Julian, Ethan, Ivy, come here.”

The three children trembled when they were called.

They looked at one another, nudging each other but none of them dared step forward.

Finally, Julian, the most responsible, walked up. “Mommy, if you want to scold someone, scold me. I was the one who took Ethan and Ivy here.”

Katherine raised her hand. “You three…”

Ivy ran up and shielded Julian, her bright eyes looking at Katherine. “Mommy, don’t blame Julian. It was my fault. I came up with the idea. If you want to punish someone, punish me.”

“No, I did it. Mommy, scold me,” Ethan added.

Seeing how united they were when facing punishment left Katherine speechless, her anger stuck in her throat.

She was not truly planning to scold them. She knew they had wanted to take revenge for her. They meant well.

But they were far too reckless, and they had scared her badly.

“Mommy wants to know, who arranged the fireworks tonight?”

Ivy blinked her bright eyes. “Mommy, guess. It was someone who likes Mommy very, very

much.”

“It was Marsh, wasn’t it?”

“Wow!” Ivy gasped dramatically. “Mommy is so smart. You guessed right.”

Katherine rubbed her forehead. She knew it.

What happened tonight was too big. There was no way the three of them could ha pulled it off alone.

“Julian, Ethan, Ivy. Didn’t Mommy tell you not to ask him for help with everything your father. He has no obligation to help us. This is too much trouble for him.”

“He could be our daddy. Marsh is so nice.” Marsh treated them well, and Ethan lit up whenever he talked about him.

“Stop. Don’t play matchmaker.”

Ivy puffed her cheeks. “Mommy, Marsh wanted to help. How could we refuse? So we said yes. Mommy, wasn’t the fireworks show amazing tonight? Bad Daddy wouldn’t set off fireworks for you, so Marsh did.”

Katherine did not know whether to thank them or cry. They had truly frightened her.

The three little ones, however, looked proud.

Ethan lifted his chin. “Exactly. Marsh’s fireworks were ten thousand times better than bad Daddy’s.”

Katherine could imagine someone’s ego inflating to the sky if he heard that.

Well, what was done was done. What else could she say now?

Quietly, Katherine transferred a sum of money to Marsh.

She could not let him spend both effort and money.

But soon, the money was returned.

Katherine felt helpless.

Rachel’s birthday party quickly trended online that night.

The million-dollar fireworks had turned into a joke.

Reporters on site had even captured photos of Rachel’s dark expression. She was probably furious by now.

Meanwhile, at the Grant Estate, Lucas sat alone in his study, smoking one cigarette after another.

He had to find out who the man behind Katherine was.

The next morning, after Katherine dropped the three kids off at school, she we

the auction house.

She still had many things to prepare for tomorrow’s auction.

Katherine took Olivia to the warehouse to inspect the items for the auction.

Katherine moved with confident, decisive steps. Olivia could feel the powerful aura around her.

Over the past few days, people had been gossiping that Katherine had gotten her position through connections and luck.

Some even claimed she was actually ugly.

Olivia secretly observed her. Katherine wore a veil, making it impossible to see her face.

Even without seeing her face, the elegance she carried was the best Olivia had ever seen.

After entering the password, they went into the storage area where the items for the auction were displayed. Katherine examined each piece carefully. Some antiques were quite interesting, and there were several rare porcelains. Wearing white gloves, she picked them up one by one for closer inspection.

The documents Olivia had provided were very thorough. They included the origin of each item, estimated value, and the consignor’s expected price.

Katherine had a photographic memory for such details.

After making a full round, she had already memorized the auction items, starting prices, and historical background.

She was about to leave when she suddenly stopped. Her gaze settled on an hourglass-shaped

vase inside a glass display case. The porcelain glaze was smooth and luminous, the patterns intricate, and the lines fluid. Its condition was excellent. It was extremely valuable.

She bent down to examine it closely, then looked at Olivia. “Open this display case.”

Following her instructions, Olivia did so. Katherine inspected it carefully, her brows

tightening. “Have all the items here been sent to the appraisal department for verification?”
